I just got back from a ride, it's about 25 degrees here. Snow on the sides of the roads, frosty breath.

Was one of the best rides I have had in a long time.

Finally scoring a decent set of riding pants, riding with a full-face helmet and getting the heated grips working made a huge difference in riding this winter.

I think I like cold-weather riding better than the warmer weather.

One thing is for sure, the bike is a rocket in the cold weather.

Hey Grind, I ride all year round. Rode to work today (31 F). If it's in the 30's and has been wet out I take the Ural, 3 wheels are better than 2 on ice. I use Gerbings heated jacket and pants liner and the gloves. Could never make it without them.

Agreed, proper gear makes a huge difference between being completely miserable or simply enjoying the ride.

its our intention to ride all year...

the weather may get the best of us though... you see it was 70 degrees when we left amaheim today... but within an hour it was 40 degrees on the dark side of the mountain... that was the high for today... 40 degrees...

im thinking these big temperature differences will cause permanent damage... and i only got 1 heated grip...

get your eyes off that russell... you see that white stuff... thats snow...

Hi, All,
I rode year 'round with the K1100LT's and I intend to with the K75, although I'm looking for a low-mileage '95 K75RT. I have a Widder electric vest, electric chaps and electric gloves. I have ridden hundreds of miles in the 20's and 30's (F) while on the K75. The electric gear keeps me comfortable. The only part of my body which feels chilled are my feet. Maybe I should give up the K-bikes and go back to the airheads to keep my feet warm. Note: I have had the Widder gear for many years. If I were to buy new electric gear, I would buy Gerbing. And as far as electric gear goes, I visited Deming Cycle today and on one wall there was a sign, "Everything on this wall, $40." There was one Widder electric vest, size 40, on the wall. Should anyone be interested, Deming Cycle's phone number is (800) 626-3338. I have no financial interest in Deming Cycle.

i have done a lot of reading about electric gear... there seems to be a few brands and varieties that are marketed to motorcyclists...

and i know these motorcyclists are very loyal to their choice of brand and style of electrics... bla bla bla...

anyway... after extensive research... internet... phone... in person... imc show... and visiting many dealers to try on stuff... we decided to score the warm & safe jacket liner... warm n safe carbon gloves... warm n safe dual heat troller...

i seldom get cold and have not seen temps below 35 on the west coast since arriving here more than 5 years ago... so they are not for me of course... but for my passenger... she is delicate... the little wench... and furthermore we have agreed to spend no money on anything next year except food and fuel and maintenance items... so we had to get the buy in this year...

between that black heap and that crazy wench... ch1t man... im broke...

anyway... if you took a msf course you get a 20% discount... warm n safe makes the powerlet and firstgear electrics... they get very high ratings like the widder and the gebrings...

Alright, now you REALLY have me jealous. We have a foot+ of snow on the ground and the prediction is for nearly the same amount to fall today (Sunday)

So.....IF there is no snowstorm Dec 30, 31 & Jan 1 and if the N.Y. metro area stays clear, we are trying to plan a trip to visit close friends on L.I.

Pickup will haul the K-RS to Nassau County for a couple of hours of riding.

Where is global warming when you need it? (only kidding)

Sunday is my "definite" day for a ride.

But not when there is 1" of sleet on the road and there is freezing rain on and off.

I don't. As nowhere NH posted it has been a strong start to the winter in NE. This AM 7ºF (up from 0 yesterday) and snowing hard. Into town in a T100 pickup, 4WD all the way. Not much chance for 2 wheels.

However, there are stories here of a guy back in the 50's that rode an Indian to work, 30mi each way, just about every day of the year. In winter he had chains and a windshield with wiper. The kids waiting for the school buses would love to see him go by. When the Indian finally croaked, he bought a used Cadillac hearse and disappointed his many fans. I've heard the story often enough to believe there is something to it. Knowing some of the descendants and surmising the gene pool they had to draw from, lends further credence.

I've traveled pretty far up in Maine and NH area. Some tough winters up there, and some of the people border on the eccentric, but not in a bad way.
