Some sad news for a fellow rider.
[/quote]US daredevil Evel Knievel dies
Evel Knievel attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon
Legendary US daredevil Evel Knievel has died at the age of 69, his granddaughter has said.
Knievel had suffered ill-health, including diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis - an incurable lung condition - for several years.
He underwent a liver transplant, after nearly dying of hepatitis C, in 1999.
Knievel gained cult status performing death-defying stunts in the 1960s and 70s, including an attempted motorcycle jump over Snake River Canyon in Idaho.
He regularly drew huge crowds when he attempted to jump over rows of parked vehicles with his motorbike.
By the time he retired in 1980 Knievel had broken nearly 40 bones _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!
I like the social aspect of riding. Rally's, socializing, drinking beer, fartin' and carrying on.

Regards to the man.
I'll never forget one of my favorite childhood toys in the seventies was a full size Evel Knievel action figure that also had the Harley Davidson motorcycle that launched from a wind up ramp. The thing would fly and we'd set up ramps and have him jump different things. You could pose him upside down on the handle bars. I think he invented freestlye before they knew what it was. Way cool.
May he finally make across the great Snake River Canyon in the sky! _________________ Steve

I had that toy too. I had the Snake River playset as well (complete with bigfoot figure! to jump the bike over). I often crashed and burned just like the real guy. Evel Knievel was a marketing genius and one hell of a rider Godspeed Evel!!!! |

He was quite the All-American stud when I was a kid. I remember how excited my buddy and I were when we got to go see his movie.
That's too bad about him passing. RIP to tthe man who could jump just about anything on those old PoS HD's.
(One of his nieces worked for me for a while - she was a crazy mofo too - but not in a good way like Evel was. ) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I saw him perform at a drag strip near Chicago one summer. And I mean perform. He was a showman first and it showed. His 'great' jumps were marketing/show legend. When I saw him he said he was going to jump 'x' number of school busses. Great except for one thing. Six of those school busses were under the take-off and landing ramps. Oh he knew how to ride and jump, no arguement there, but his exaggerated showmanship took over his real distance jumping. And as for his physics awareness, that showed when comon bolts and nuts were used for the parachute housing on the a rocket he used at the Snake River.
He was a American character alright. _________________ Mike Gullery
