It seems every year I feel compelled to thank you guys again for the site. I have been looking on other K sites forums for fun lately and found anything but fun. Someone's site realated to the NY,NY dealer in particular is awful, he may be a hell of a nice guy, but he comes across like a jackass to me. All of the sites lack both humor and substance.
I think we should get together for a mini rally and we can take take Ted out for a steak and beers. Some place like Hungry Mother State Park in Western Virgina. The area has great roads and scenery and very inexpensive cabins, plus its in Ted's neck of the woods. Any thoughts or time frame? _________________ Dom |

Don't thank me - Ted be DA MAN as far as this site goes.
As far as mini-rallies go - just make it to the IHOP in Palm Desert, CA at 7am tomorrow and you can go for a ride with Johnny O and me.
(Yes, I'll be keeping my distance from him so as not to be associated with the bug-eyes. ) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'd like to add my thanks as well for a great site. I can't count how many dollars have been saved (and spent!) and issues resolved as a result of this site.
A rally in W VA would be awesome, as it's one state away from me and has some of the finest mountain roads anywherein the US. I'd imagine mid-June would be about the earliest it would be relatively warm up there.
Count me in! _________________ Steve

Man I would be SOOO UP for a Virginia Meet in SouCentral VA - especially anywhere near Rt. 16 and Hungry Mother!
I only put up the walls and roof, what makes this place amazing is the people who call it home. Always been that way and I hope it always will be. As for keeping the site running, it is the mods like Jim and Drake who really put in the work _________________

Jim sorry I forgot about you I was typing faster then I was thinking with the subject title.
The roads in any direction of Hungry Mother are top notch. And sorry for the confusion, the park is in westERN Virgina NOT West Virgina.

There are plenty of restraunts, hotels, etc in the area as well. The cabins aren't half bad either. _________________ Dom |

Ted may have only put up the walls and roof, but he certainly calls it home, too. Even though I no longer have a K1100LT, I still think of it as home. I've been a member of the Group for a few years and have met a few of you face-to-face and many more of you via the internet. I couldn't have asked for a better family when I had the Deer Meet in June and, later, in October when I lost Harriet. Some have asked if I need financial help (no, but thank you very much). Some have offered their expertise, mostly psychological and medical. Some have offered a place to stay to get away from El Paso to help cope with the loss. Thank you; my daughter and son-in-law are here helping, but some day I expect to be back on a bike riding long distances and I'll take you up on your offers then. And likewise, if I can be of help, please ask! There is no dealer within 275 miles of El Paso and, if you're traveling, I have a m/c trailer, a few parts, some tools, a garage, shop manual, etc., etc.
Regards to all in the K11OG,
Phil Marvin - El Paso, TX |

Yes thanks for a great K site.
As for a mini-rally...well I tried that a few years ago (Met Phil and Harriet back then) with a rally in Taos, New Mexico. I think we had 5 bikes show and one was my brother on a RT. Hey it was still a good time. _________________ Mike Gullery

Just a matter of interest, for those on this side of the pond, what is the difference between Western Virginia, and West Virginia?? _________________ 94 K1100ltse |

Both Virginia and West Virginia are states. Western Virginia is the western part of the state of Virginia - which is different from the state of West Virginia.

IMHO, the area has the best motorcycle roads on the east coast.
I figure the roll call would be small, so maybe we'll call it "K11 OG and Friends Rally" this way we can get at least 10 people Does anyone have any other ideas or times? _________________ Dom |

Dom, ive always wanted to ride that area. its not a day ride for me so a mini trip would be awesome.
i expect getting a ride together before this winter is out for most, so early spring would be next. Not being from there, when do the roads clean up??
And I like the 'Friends' idea, seeing how I only own a K100rs 2V..... |

Well now, it seems like I'd have some free time to wiggle on down the eastern seaboard for a party like that. I'd really like to meet some of you and find out if you're as freaky as you sound.

Count me in for sure, this area is in my state, so I couldn't miss it. I've been up in the Shenandoah camping and hking but haven't seen the more western areas much.
As far as the seasons, I'd imagine it being pretty chilly up there until at least April or May. And even then it can always be cold. I guess it depends on everyone's sleeping arrangements and idea of cold.
Looks like 350 miles straight out Route 58 all the way to Marion for me, a ride I've been wanting to take. It is the longest road in Virginia (Route 58, 508 miles) and it is not a freeway, but a fairly modern (on the easten end anyway) 4 lane country highway that slows down through towns. As you head west it tapers down to 2 lanes as it goes into the foothills. Most of the towns are small, somewhat forgotten manufacturing towns that dried up when production went overseas.
There is a new local book out called "Beach to Bluegrass" about Route 58 and all the history, good and bad, that has occured along it. I think I'll get it for a winter read and get psyched for cruising it in the spring.
Here is a link about Route 58.

Back to the thread; the evidence is in the number of people who USED to appreciate the big K and now pilot something else but pop back.
