Ohlins
|
The Ohlins is
widely acclaimed as the best shock made for the K-Series BMW bikes.
It is rebuildable and quite adjustable. Check back for more information.
REAR
SHOCK
Model: Ohlins Type 4 Fully adjustable remote reservoir,
remote hydraulic spring preload
Installation: Moderate - 1 to 1.5 hours. (largely
due to the time needed to mount the shock reservoir.)
Need: As with several comfort accessories, the choice of
replacement shock absorber is best made after thoroughly testing
not only the stock screen but all available replacements. Generally,
any replacement shock will give a better ride then the stock, which
apparently usually begins to fail at around 30,000 miles.
Cost: $750 to $1,000 depending on availability.

Koni
|
The
Koni is widely respected as the only maker of Shock absorbers for
the K bike that offers a full lifetime warranty to the original purchaser.
While this shock is not as easy to find nor as adjustable as the Fox,
many buy Koni simply for the peace of mind of knowing that they will
not have to repeatedly spend several hundred dollars having the shock
rebuilt. It is rebuildable and adjustable. Check back for more information.

Progressive
Suspension
|
Progressive
makes the lower-end replacement shocks for the K series, with models
ranging a simple replacement for the stock shock to models resembling
the Fox with remote reservoir and full adjustability. While there
apparently has been some question as to the quality of these shocks
and the limited warranty, they are a good low-cost replacement for
a failing stock shock.

Ralph Catanese :)
