Had leak there and replaced seal.
Leaked again.
Just in case I got it wrong replaced the seal.
Leaking again.
Thinkin of polishing the "shaft" with very fine
emery paper in case there is a roughness there.
Any ideas why it's happening?? _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |

My guess for multiple seal leaks would be worn bearings, just enough that the seal isn't mating properly on the shaft surface. _________________ Ride safe.

I had to replace the same seal on my '96 K1100 and because I did not know how to do it I took it to my nearest BMW dealer to have it done. It was well worth it because the seal had been replaced before (before my ownership) but the person who did it previously had made a complete hash of the job and they had a somewhat awkward task because they could not get the old seal out because it had been butchered when being fitted! _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Seems the bearing is shot.
Took it for a fast run to get it hot.
Checked the wheel and I could feel the rattle. _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |

I also have a 96 RS with a leaky seal. I changed the seal then when on a 1500 mile trip and it leaked again on the trip. That was about 15 years ago and unfortunately the bike has been parked all that time.
I did continue to change the brake fluid to protect the system. In fact I changed it again last week.
I am confident that I do not have a failing bearing, only a leaky seal. There is no play left/right or Up/down when push/pulling on the tire.
Tom Cutter told me that I may have some rust/corrosion on the surface the seal runs on. He said it is normal procedure for him to wire brush that surface when rebuilding the rear drives.
In the coming months, I plan to resurrect that bike. _________________ 1996 K1100RS, 1976 CB750A, 2017 Triumph Trophy, 2020 R1250RT, 2022 RE Classic 350 |

I didn't detect play until it was hot after a run. _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |
