Here in Washington, once a vehicle is thirty years old you can get a "Collector Plate." It's $8 less then annual registration and means no annual registration fess in the future. Today I got a collector plate for my 93 LT.

I'll be doing the same with my 94 RS in January. Can't wait to get away from the annual fees. _________________ 1994 K1100RS - Mystic |

I still have 4 years to go with mine until it is 30 The extra benefits I get later is the annual Excise Duty is abolished, but not until the bike is 40.
The way things are heading, if the tree huggers get their way we could have a problem getting fuel for it by them. (And I will be into my 90's!) _________________ 1997 K1100LT

PA, where I live has some rules about that. From the state code:
State Regulations
No person may operate a vehicle with antique or classic registration plates for commercial purposes or for general daily transportation. Permitted use is limited to participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades and similar uses, and for occasional transportation. Occasional transportation means no more than 1 day a week. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Iowa is has the same restrictions, for special events and not daily use. _________________ Ride safe.

Same deal in Washington:
Quote: | (4) A collector vehicle registered under this section may only be used for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and occasional pleasure driving. |
But the Washington State Patrol doesn't bother trying to enforce it. The "occasional pleasure driving" verbiage makes it all but impossible to enforce.
And if I ever did get cited I've got 13 motorcycles licensed and registered to demonstrate that I am, in fact, a collector. I'm no Jay Leno but I don't have his bank account. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I've observed the same. There are many daily drivers with collector plates around me - in the heart of the city. Neither the city nor the state enforce the collector plate status.
I don't plan to daily drive, but I plan to frequently drive with the collector plate. _________________ 1994 K1100RS - Mystic |

I'd possibly ask what happen with your insurance coverage with that restricted use plate.... just beware of what you could lose. _________________ Ride safe.

Good question. I already confirmed with my insurance that nothing changes. At least for now - they can always change policies in the future. _________________ 1994 K1100RS - Mystic |
