Once you have had one you cannot stay away for long.
I have just firmed up an offer to buy a 1997 K1100Lt, and transferring the money later this week.. It only has 36K miles recorded and is in pretty good mechanical and cosmetic condition.
Complete with all the luggage and inner bags. The ABS works as well in fact I am struggling to find anything actually wrong with it. I should be able to pick it up by the end of the month.

I believe you have to use a 3rd party platform like photobucket to upload pictures on here, is that correct?
I use identicle software to this withr the UK based BMWCLUB forum and they can upload directly without using a 3rd party. There has been a few 'iffy' stories over this side of the pond about photobucket so I will not be using them.

After 2 weeks of off and on work my 'new' K1100 is about to hit the streets. It is cosmetically very good but had been sadly neglected by previous owners with general maintenance.
Both fork legs were weeping and the right hand side one had contaminated the brake pads. The fuel filter was dated 2005. the gasket over the camshafts was so heavily covered with silicone sealant it was no good refitting it.
The spark plugs were worn beyond further use. All the oils were well past a change date/miles.
But on the positive side the valves were perfectly set up and when I used a vacuum gauges on the outlets all were within 1 point on the gauges and ran steadily without jumping around all over the place. I Didn't move the fuel filter after all so the new one is still in the same place.
The worst thing I came across was the air filter had been fitted incorrectly. it was the correct way up but fitted so the the sealing lip was on the left side and was almost impossible to get it to even lift.

I have a way to "cheat" to lift the rear of the air filter. This pic is on a K75 but essentially the same:
If it was that neglected then you're lucky that the brake master cylinders didn't need work.

The last jobs were done today which included fitting a new camshaft cover gasket and bolting the cover down to he head. The fairing was all screwed together easily and did a test ride and filled up with fuel.
The run was around 25 miles went exceedingly well and the new brake pads are bedding in nicely. AND no oil leaks!
It has been really hard work at times with all the work done at ground level so my knees are really playing up, but the 'boss' and I are off for a week in the car to see my grandchildren ........but when I get back......I am off to Holland for a long week-end on the bike.

Save your knees and butt with one of these. Made for gardening but very handy for MC wrenching. Aside from knee protection you can also flip it over to have a nice low bench. I use mine all of the time .

Thanks F.D. That is all very well but they are out of stock according to their advert.
Never mind I have an idea from that picture, It should not be too difficult to make something similar using slabs of sealed cell foam and a garage tool called a 'crawler' that allow people to crawl/slide under vehicles on their backs.
