If I pull the shaft to align and mark it up, is
easy to get it back on the gearbox spline??

You will encounter the circlip that will give you some resistance when removing and installing the shaft from both the transmission end and the final drive end.

Use a rubber mallet to tap it back onto the circlip. (Or hammer and a block of wood if you don't have a rubber mallet.)

Thank you.
I don't think my drive shaft is like that.
It's just the UJ at the front.

I have spare broken one which was attached to
a final drive I bought 2nd hand years ago as a spare.
I think it's the same as on the bike.

If I was able to post a pic....

Well it's back in.
I managed to see position of uj at gearbox.
One spline out is quite a change in angle.

Thanks for help.

There's 20 splines so each spline is 18 degrees.

Now that it's all done.......
When I took it out on the road I thought that there was a bit more vibration than I remember but it seemed to settle down or I got used to it.

On reflection if I were doing it again I would use the roller/needle bearings instead of the solid "bronze" type.
When greasing after torquing up it didn't seem to take very much grease. There's nowhere for grease to waste/come out so really I don't know if any went in. Grease at 5,000 intervals.

I'm sure it will see my out anyway seeing as originals were installed in 1994 and probably wouldn't have been looked at only rubber gaiter went on fire.

I had the brake hoses go bad on my RS. Caused the same issue, but never caught fire. I have been looking for some stainless steel lines and having trouble finding them for my LT. Any suggestions would be great.

I get mine from Motobins in the UK. They sell lines individually as opposed to in kits but they're less expensive than what Spiegler charges.

A bit of a coincidence because I have just ordered a full kit from Motobins myself today for my newly acquired '97 KLT. They are not Goodridge make, but come from a company called Venhill in UK.
Venhill make a vast range of aftermarket control cables for most bikes including BMW and are generally about 2/3rds of the price and just as good. The cable outer sheath is coated internally with Teflon which make them a noticeably smoother than BMW ones. They are sold under the name of 'Superlite'
