|
|
I cant seem to find a definitive answer, but i could use a quick help…
The 3 spoke r1100rt front wheel and the k1100rs 3 spoke are both floating caliper/ 3.5x17 wheels but have different part numbers, but otherwise look identical, but there must be something different because the bearings arent the same OD. So my question is…
Is it easy to fit an r1100rt front wheel onto a k1100rs? Is it just a simple matter of changing out a bearing and the pipe/spacer?
Ive seen the wheel interchange document that is floating around but i dont think it answered that…thanks!! _________________ 1997 K1100LT |

I have a sneaking feeling that the axle is different. I have a R1100RS and the axle is both heavier and a different design on the K1100RS. The end screwed retainer cap on the ends of the right side of the axle the R/RS and K/RT are also a totally different design
Another way to check to see if this is right is to look at the wheel bearing part numbers, if they are the same it 'may' be possible. Later on I will check the overall width with the axle in mine and get back to let you know if there is a difference _________________ 1997 K1100LT

I have just checked the part numbers for the bearings on each bike - the K/RS and the R/1100RS and they are widely different,
This also also reminded me when I looked at the parts drawings that the front wheel on the R1100RS also carries the speedometer drive gearbox as well which is quite a chunky part to fit, so I think they may not be compatible.
I also think the forks look a bit wider on the R1100RS too which would throw the alignment of the right hand disc out of position for the brake caliper. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

About to respond to this but it seems that you have the answer.
I have the two bikes in my signature and while it isn't an RT, the Boxer Cup's front axle and hub look very different compared to the brick's. _________________ John & Cathy

I have had a look at a spare front wheel I have for the R/RS and the speedometer drive to connect into the drive gearbox is totally different.there is a cast portion in mine to take the drive which won't be on the KRS wheel, that will explain why the wheels have different part numbers.
Can I ask why do you want to change it? It is just me being nosey. _________________ 1997 K1100LT
