Just bought the bike and first thing was to fit a lead so I can connect my CTEK charger. It’s got one of the yellow Motobatt batteries fitted and just disconnecting the cables needed a tiny 10mm tool! The positive post looks suspiciously close to the battery cover but has no plastic cover - is that normal or am I missing it? _________________ 1994 K1100LT |

Probably not.
I have a Motobatt battery on my R bike and it didn't come with terminal covers.
IIRC the original wet lead acid batteries had a cover for the + terminal.
You could find yourself a scrap tire tube and cut yourself a small bit to line the bottom of the battery hold down plate. _________________ Ride safe.

The power socket(s) above the ignition coils are good for attaching a battery charger.
Get a Powerlet plug (aka Hella plug) to attach to your battery charger.

Cheers, might try to find a cover for the terminal as it just seems like a short waiting to happen. _________________ 1994 K1100LT |

Too late, CTEK lead fitted and hoping it brings the battery back to life - don’t think you have CTEK in the US but they’re pretty good at recovering wet batteries but AGM tech is new to me and from what I’ve read once they’re failing that’s it! _________________ 1994 K1100LT |

They do sell the CTEK products in the US. (And every one that I looked at on Amazon has really good ratings.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I have a CTEK battery charger and really like it.
I have even used it overnight on my pickup starting battery before it is back on the road after the snow and ice disappears. _________________ John & Cathy

Just thought I’d update that after leaving the CTEK charger connected for a few days and it showing charged the battery failed to start the bike after a short ride with headlight on.
I put this down to the AGM battery having been incorrectly charged by the previous owner and what I’d read about AGM batteries being beyond recovery once they start to fail as the CTEK has been great with wet batteries in the past.
Do people recommend an AGM or wet battery as the best replacement, not sure if it matters but I’m in the UK and bike gets used a couple of times a week for generally short trips.

Lets just say that I don't know of many bike owners that still use wet lead acid batteries anymore. _________________ Ride safe.
