I was doing a complete oils change to my 97 LT today that I got a week ago. As I was draining the transmission oil I noticed that the absorber was totally loose. No nuts on either side. I looked it up on Max's fiche and BMW wants $6.36 for a collared M8 nut. Can I use Nyloc M8 nuts? or will the exhaust heat met the nylon and therefore destroy the effectiveness. Also do these get completely tightened? I never noticed this part on my RS.

The absorber is #14 in the picture:

Looking at the image of the stock nut on Max's site, it looks more like the flange part has serrations on it to be the "locking" component.
Though the flange of the stock nut gives the nut more surface area to grab and hold, I'd think you could get by with regular nuts and serrated lock washers.
Also, did you know that part #14 is composed of 2 pieces. Both halves are attached with the nuts, then they are a slip fit connection when you remove/install the exhaust.

Looking closely at the one on the bike today it seems to have been loose and rattling around for a very long time. The threads on both sides are very beat up I will try it with the $.43 flanged M8 nuts with lock washers that I bought today, but if it doesn't work I will order a new one.
