Has anybody worked out the torque settings for the 4 bolts
holding the top fairing to the bracket.
I did a test on the broken fairing and stopped at 18Nm / 13ft lbs _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |

If they are the same or similar as those on a K100LT/RT the torque settings you quote seem a little on the high side.
The bolts if I remember correctly are made from 6mm steel and are fitted into brass inserts. If they are the same, you could strip the threads of the inserts quite easily if you go too high. I would go no more than 10ft/lbs. So long as they are all tightened in sequence and equally, then this should be sufficient. They should be tightened 'dry' with no lubrication. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

The 4 off OEM bolts for the main fairing bracket are listed as M6 x 20 (grade 8 Max torque for this bolt is 10Nm (7.5 lb ft). |

Personally, I've not used a torque wrench on any fastener going into plastic/fiberglass(with our without an insert). Good and firm by hand. I've not had one fall out yet. _________________ Ride safe.

On the old fairing I took it up to 18kN and it held.
It's well bedded in the fairing - I cut it up to see.
It's a bolt head at the back. _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |
