I sold my K1100 almost 2 years ago and boy do I miss it. The main reason being it was getting a bit on the heavy side for me (I am now 75 yrs old) but I would still like another one.
They are getting very rare, in UK, good ones that is. Not with mileages that suggest it has circumnavigated the globe 4 or 5 times, or so badly beaten up they are next truck to the breakers.
I have as you will see from my signature line 2 x K75's and they will almost all the K1100 would do but with a little more effort needed. These two5 bikes are each value at £1500 so I should be able to buy a decent one if I sold both but there are so few around. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Good luck finding one!
The K11s aren't worth much over here anymore... anywhere from $1,500 - $2,500 in good enough condition. _________________ Jim

There's plenty of them in Germany. Swap the instrument cluster and you're all done. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

Just be patient. I'm sure there's a half decent one out there with your name on it somewhere.

Another thing: Even though I'm still a young buck (just turned 60) and can still get a K1100LT up on the center stand, last year when my foot was messed up I bought one of these to hold the bike upright so that I could check the oil and do maintenance until my foot was better and right leg was strong again:

Good ones in UK are still atracting good money. I saw one advertised yesterday with 29k miles and they were asking £3200 for it. It was an early one from 1993 The advert admitted the ABS wasn't working. For that sort of money everything must be top order, or at least working.
It wasn't the weight when I was putting it on the stand, it was manoeuvring the bike out of the garage which was the problem. Also I got tipped of on a corner when a car clipped me on a bend. I was on my own so it was a real struggle to get it upright again. Having a full fuel tank didn't help! _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Hmm. I need something with wheels of some sort so I can easily reposition the bike in my garage. Seen anything like that? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

I have one of these that I picked up for $50 used locally many moons ago Works fine for the Ks but given the K bike lean it works best if you throw a chunk of 2x4 under the side stand.
Search for "motorcycle dolly" to find one.

That is a good idea, but since I only have a one-car garage I need one that stands the bike fully upright. There are a lot of idiotic, overpriced ideas out there, but I think I'm going to spring for the money and get one of these, hopefully I can find a used one.

If you use a chunk of 1x4 or 2x4 to keep the bike fairly upright the Harbor Freight dolly doesn't take up that much room. At my old place I had a one car garage and before I got the dolly I could only get two bikes and a car in the garage. The dolly allowed me to get three bikes and a car in the garage.
Given the width of fairing and mirrors on an LT I don't think that upright one will be materially thinner than a bike on the Harbor Freight dolly slightly tilted. The fact that it tilted helped me get my LT deeper into the corner on the HF one.

There are a number of places I can advertise including the UK BMW club pages. Then there is an on line agency www.autotrader.co.uk/bikes and they occasionally have one. If I were seriously in the market, I would have to sell my K75 bikes first to fund the purchase and more importantly to make space in the garage. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Hi Grunter...
You mentioned that at 75 you were having a bit of a trouble with the weight of the K1100...Well I’m 78 and ride my K1100 in addition to others, and found that a 2†plastic block added to the Side Stand helped enormously... in addition, I go to the gym twice per week all year long and concentrate on keeping legs muscles as strong as possible for an “old dufferâ€.
Like you I had thought about selling the K due to weight, BUT RIDING ANYTHING ELSE, even my other bikes, is about as rewarding as kissing your sister !
Heavy or not, just keep the K and ride it as long as you can and still feel safe !
Best of luck,, Ride Safe ..... / Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

Looking good, flybd5. What's the right bar end? Is that a Euro throttle lock?

No, my bar in the living room take care of that. That is this:

Works *perfectly*. Keeps my hands from curling up in pain on long trips. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.
