One nice thing about living in northern Nevada is the immediate access to some amazing day-ride territory. I took Monday a week ago for one of those rides. One kid was at camp, the other graduated this year and was being lazy, mom was at work, I'm going for a ride, daggone it! Out of Carson City, NV, south to Hwy 4 in California, cross the Sierra Nevada, stop in Bear Valley for some food and gas, head back home. 92 miles of non-stop winding road, a lot of it not much more than a real lane and a half, many hairpins done in second gear, much of it stuck in third gear and some fourth. Absolutely beautiful country to clear the brain for the day.
A stunningly adequate convenience store burrito and drinks, then on home.

Thanks for the pictures Bruce. Our daughter and S-I-L live out in San Jose and we have gone out there a few times and had some spectacular rides heading east.
The Nevada side of Tahoe gave us some great views.
Also, going west out of Yosemite on back roads was outstanding. Tight switchbacks and no guiderails.
Nice place to live, eh? _________________ John & Cathy

Oh, it's definitely a great place to live. Not only for the unlimited supply of great rides, but where we are is like living in a campground, practically. No need to ever go on a vacation to escape, just step on the front porch!
Down towards Yosemite and Sonora Pass are a couple places I want to hit soon. We were in the Vegas area for a decade and there's only so much good riding. Once you've done it, there's at least an 8 hour escape to find more good riding. _________________ 1996 K1100LT

Thanks! My predecessors took good care of it, I'm trying to as well.
Ebbets definitely has some places that require me to get my head out of the scenery and pay attention to the road ahead. I had been off a ride for a looooong time before getting this one, so the experience level is not back up to speed yet. _________________ 1996 K1100LT

Have you been down to Kings Canyon? We rode in from the south and found miles of 1st and 2nd gear switchbacks all the way up to the Sequoias.
Jen (our daughter) wants to know when we are going out for another multiday ride.
Beautiful country out there. Lots and lots of open spaces and great riding. _________________ John & Cathy

Haven't been down Kings Canyon yet. Had to think for a moment because we have a Kings Canyon here in Carson City. Not nearly as cool as the other Kings Canyon, I bet.
I have that one on my list of places, for sure. _________________ 1996 K1100LT

Thank you, Gary. With only 35k miles, it better have a lot more rides left. _________________ 1996 K1100LT
