Posted: Mon Jun 01, 2015 4:33 pm Post subject: HMSP 9 - 4.27 - 5.1.16 * SAVE THE DATE* (updated 1.24.16) |
|
|
The dates for HMSP 9 are Wednesday, April 27 through Sunday, May 1 2016.
All important information will be kept in this top post. The updated date in the subject line will change when I update the post.
The Lodge is reserved - fortunately!
I am not guaranteeing lodging - first come, first served. If you reserve a bunk, room or cabin, and find you can't make the event, you need to to sell your bunk, room or cabin to someone else or forfeit the charge. No refunds. Be prepared to arrange payment when you make a reservation. Private rooms are $180.00, bunks are $90.00 - for four nights. Cabin rates vary.
All relevant information will be kept here in the top post - the *updated* date in the subject line will change when the post is updated.

Hungry Mother weather
Days to go until HMSP IX
Hungry Mother Lodge - Six bedroom lodge (Sleeps 15 maximum - for our purposes, at this point, it sleeps 11). It's a great place for a get-together. (There are no bed rentals for lodge.) This log lodge offers a view of the park. It was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s.
Six bedrooms: Master bedroom with a double bed, three bedrooms with queen size beds, one with two sets of bunk beds (making four beds), and one bedroom with a single bed and a set of bunk beds (making three beds). There are three baths total - one in the master bedroom, and two hall baths for the other 5 rooms.
Sleeps 15. Allows 15; no cots for rent.
Kitchen: Refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, coffeemaker, dishes, dishcloth, a few dish towels, silverware, cooking utensils, pots and pans, microwave oven, toaster, clock radios. Also includes rustic (think Flinstones) furniture, and linens (one set per person). Lodge is climate controlled (heat and AC). Bring food, dish detergent, extra dish towels, coffee filters, coffee, salt and pepper, and motorcycles.
Porch, large deck and picnic shelter, washer and dryer, gas grill, gas fireplace" (The gas fireplace sucks - the fire out by the shelter is much better - as long as we can scrounge enough wood!)
As before, I am not guaranteeing lodging. C = cabin, P = private room, B = bunk. Private rooms are $180.00, bunks are $90.00 - for four nights. All the private rooms are taken. The Lodge is full. If anyone else decides to attend, we'll have to look at renting a nearby cabin.
PAID
Jim ---- C 2
Scott ---- P (Master) (paid - thank you!)
Chuck ---- P (paid - thank you!)

Hi Jim....
Glad to hear that you're back to Good Health... and that HMSP IX is again 'on target'.. Now, how much should I send while its available and not wait as usual until I dont have '2 nickels' ??
Though I didnt have a bike to ride at HMSP VIII... it was still a GREAT experience to be together again, and to have TED ( despite the fact that he's a Republican ) back amongst the fold ! Would give anything to have Phil with us just once more, but then, he's always there in spirit eh?
Best regards as always...Ride safe....// Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

I have to talk to Cathy- her school vacation is the week before HM9- that is good and bad.
I'll let you know by this weekend. Sorry for the delay- she was away visiting her Dad in Florida and I was doing an Ironbutt. _________________ John & Cathy

I'm in. I'd like a private room since I plan on bringing someone. Please send me a PM with where to send payment and how much.
My newest creation is beer-can burgers on the grill. I'm also working on a scratch spagetti sauce recipe, and I did see the holy grail recipe somewhere.
Oh, and I have the Ingle's Card! _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Understood. Guess we should have scheduled a week earlier!
How'd the iron butt go?

OK Jim, I'm in. Bunk please
I forget- how do you want $$- by check? Lemme' know.
Iron Butt was pretty good- the Minuteman 1000. It had a bunch of 2 lane back roads in northern Vt, NH and Maine. which slowed the ride down.
I did 1080 miles in 19.5 hours including very brief stops. It was a very windy day and I only got about 40mpg- must have been wicking it up on I-95..... Otherwise my K100 was faultless and comfortable. _________________ John & Cathy

I really want to come to a Hungry Mother, but I simply can not commit. I teach Biology and have State tests in the middle of the month of May. If we are in good shape maybe I will be OK to take a day off two weeks before the test. So here is my thought.
Buzz down Friday. get a hotel room local. Hang out Friday night, Saturday, Buzz home Sunday.
Will this work logistically. Again I can not commit now, but I really want to. people that are local to HM, do the hotels fill up? Do I need reservations, or can I buzz in real quick?
Thanks! _________________ 1997 K1100LT

I was the new guy last year so here's my 2 cents....
There isn't a "hotel" within 10 miles of the lodge. There are some scary Motel 6 type places but I'll pass. The lodge sits on the top of what we in SC would call a mountain. Unless you are nuts, you do not want to make many trips up or down that thing at night. Also unless you've been there, you couldn't find the lodge at night with a GPS and a troup of boy scouts.
If I was you, I've reserve a bunk, pay for it, and hope the students keep it together. If you have to bail someone may pay you back for your bunk. Even if you do just come friday to Sunday, two nights in any kind of hotel is more expensive that 4 nights in the bunkroom. Plus just hanging out around the campfire and burning stuff has Zen life properties.
Sugarhill does snore though.....
Last year every bunk filled up, it's a blast, you WANT to come, so make it so. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Ernie - Phil might be more present than just in spirit - who knows where there's a vial of his ashes hanging around?

I got word today from Virginia State Parks that all the furniture in the cabins is being replaced. There is no update on the Lodge furniture yet. Could be interesting.
I don't know if they will re configure any of the rooms - which could mean fewer or more beds and bunks. _________________ Jim
