Apart from the absorption on water into the fuel there is a question of the ethanol attacking the fuel pipes on older vehicles. This according to a magazine in UK, this mainly will affect fuel pipes made prior to 2011. This by design, will affect all K1100 models unless the pipework has been changed since that date, when the type of rubber was made more resistant to ethanol.
As an owner of an 'elderly' 'K' bike I know the effect that water in the tank can have on aluminium fuel tanks. I like a few others have had to have the alloy on the section directly below where the fuel pump sits repaired with an expensive alloy weld. This is the lowest part of the tank and where the water collects. The area was full of corrosion pin holes.
There is also a question as to wether ethanol will also attack plastic which is used for some BMW bike fuel tanks, If this is true then the problem of pipe rot fades into insignificance _________________ 1997 K1100LT

The water only gets absorbed if the E10 sits for an extended period.. I've replaced lots of fuel lines but because they are old and cracked from age, not from ethanol.
As noted at my link above, BMW has issued a TSB indicating that E10 is fine in our old Ks
I just bought my 93 LT back to life after sitting for 8+ years with E10 in it and the tank and fuel system were fine. But I live in a very moist part of the country so I have a dehumidifier in my garage so the humidity never exceeds 60. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hello Al
I agree with the Duck. Been using E10 in my 93 K1100RS for the past twenty years. Never a problem.

I have only used Ethanol free in my airhead. The K just runs, no issues. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

I've run e-10 in both my K and my R bikes as long as I intend to ride them regularly.
I'll run at least 2 tanks of non-ethanol, and treat with Stabil before I park them for the winter. _________________ Ride safe.

That is one big thing I'll miss moving away from NH. There was a place with "recreational fuel" with no ethanol about 12 miles away.
I made sure that the last fill up of the riding season was there. _________________ John & Cathy

John - you should be able to find some near you somewhere... well, maybe 25 miles away. A lot closer than I can get it.
https://www.pure-gas.org/extensions/maps.jsp?statecode=PA
They have trouble keeping the site updated - for some reason. Like maybe because there's no way in the app to delete a station that doesn't have ethanol free anymore - or else the station isn't there. Generally speaking - the site and the app are OK.
I take a few gas cans with me when I know I'll be near stations with ethanol free. Also use Bell Performance products - even with the ethanol free. _________________ Jim

I didn't know E10 freely was available that long ago! E 5 became available but not mandatory in Europe and the Uk over the past 5-6years and I think this side of the pond was the first to use it on a regular basis.
(Except Portland in Oregon where it became compulsory in 2007) _________________ 1997 K1100LT

If you have Wawa gas stations near you they have started carrying it at almost all of their stations. It is a little pricey, but what gas isn't these days. I do tend to run Premium in my K, but I have never worried about ethanol free. _________________ 1997 K1100LT
