Good morning all....!
First I’d like to mention how much I worry about all of us and the raging Corona pandemic. Please do all you can to avoid probable areas of contagion and take every measure possible to protect yourselves and your families.

Now I’d like to ask if anyone knows how to adjust the clutch (k1100 LT ) without removing the exhaust ?? I have tried to get the 13mm lock nut, as well as the 10mm Stop Bolt, by using two knuckles and two extensions but to no avail. The lever free-Play is correct, and the cable length under the boot is ok at 3“,,, but I have to find the correct position for the Stop-Bolt and then lock in in.

Lately It’s been reluctant to change gears smoothly without double clutching, especially 1st to 2cd and 2cd to 3rd.... other gear changes are smooth as usual.

So any of you guys had success with any tools having not first removed the xhaust ?

Hello again ...
Ok... well that was quick ! I found the solution, and it’s all in the tool. The compound angle formed by two „U“ connectors and the two short extension rods plus the minimal clearance was too much to allow the socket handle to function........ however I found in my „forgotten tools“ collection a 3/8“ x 12 flexible extension that looks like two helical springs wound in opposite directions with the smaller of the two nested inside the first. One end „female“ accepts the socket drive , the „male“ end the socket and ..... VOILA !
The resultant curve is smooth with NO binding and it slips right through the limited space.... first with the 13mm to loosen the „lock nut“ and then with the 10mm to turn the setting screw.
Worked like a charm....

Well... because it’s still on the center stand due to horrific weather here in the far upper northeast, I really don’t know. Will let you know when it’s fit to ride again...

Well that’s right,,just water, a little lightening, and some window breaking thunder... but what’s really unnerving are the microbursts that accompany storms coming in from the northwest. For some reason the topography of the Upper Connecticut Valley in combination with Storm direction causes these sudden short lived but frequent intense down-blasting winds. For us it will continue throughout this week. I saw that Mass got wicked high rainfalls and will get more before it’s all through. Hope you are secure and have no water issues to deal with ,! Maybe if you get up this way on the bike, Sugar Hill and I can join you for lunch at some outside location ! DONT FORGET your mask or you’ll dine alone !

Yeah, we got the storm, we lost our dear Xfinity cable modem on one of the lightning strikes. No big deal. Smile

I have heard of Sugar Hill. I am a glider pilot. The glider I own was flown in the late 60's over there.

Good morning all...

To answer Duck’s question... Only a few downpours yesterday, so yes, I went for a short damp ride, and YES it does work better, much better. Before the storm I had changed the GL5 ( Belray 85/140) and as you know with some difficulty adjusted the clutch per instructions. The “notchy” hesitant gear change is gone and now very smooth again as it has always been. Your sheet on “clutch adjustment” has always been very helpful...thank you !

To “flybd5”...... btw, “Sugar Hill” is one of our K11OG Moderators and a rider Exemplare who happens to live on the backside of Cannon Mountain in Sugar Hill, NH. Ride up to Lincoln/Woodstock some day and we can all meet for lunch.

Ernie,

In case you weren't aware, adding 20-25 grams of LiquiMoly gear oil additive to the transmission will make your K's shifting less "agricultural." It even comes from The Fatherland!

Hi Duck....
Well as usual, your tip on the Moly did make a significant difference in going from "gear to gear" as normal ( like riding a CAT-D3) to effortless gliding from gear to gear as in an ice ballet!

I used just Under a shot glass .88 floz. Which is roughly (25/454) x 16 floz...... Assuming that "a pint is a pound the world around " and there are 16 floz per pint fluid.. 0.06 x 16 =.88 floz..... A bit obtuse but it's in the Ball Park..
However if you remember,, RAL (aka Rich the Baltimore fish guy) and I were playing with Wolfram ( tungsten disulfide) as a friction inhibitor. I had some corse grain from Canada, and Rich had some fine powder which his fairy godmother left for a tooth. Because WSi2 is hard to get into solution, I blended some with MoSi2 as a surfactant which seemed to keep everything in an emulsified state. That's what I used and not the Liqi-Moly

Yes. Can't hurt but where it really helps is in making the trans run more smoothly.

Hey Ducks, I bought the engine oil version of the LiquiMoly MoS2 additive, and was thinking of adding to the K oil, but I tried just a tiny bit of it in my four stroke lawn mower first.

It killed the engine. Sounds like everything inside the cylinder is broken. Holy shit. Good thing it was a free mower I picked up from Craigslist. I'm returning that crap, its worthless.

Engine oil and gear oil are not the same and serve different functions.

I've looked at adding moly to the engine oil and decided not to for a myriad of reasons.

I've put tons of miles on my Ks with moly in the transmission gear oil for over a decade. Results: Smoother shifting and no issues.

So the Moly is not for the engine in K11's. Ok. Now I am trying to find out if anyone has used it on a Land Rover LR2 like mine.

Turns out it works fine on my Land Rover LR2. I filed a complaint with LiquiMoly about their product destroying my lawn mower and to my surprise I got a call from their local rep about it. He said he wants to see the mower and "make it right" whatever that means. Tried to tell me it could be a coincidence and I shot that down with extreme prejudice. We'll see what happens. Maybe they will fix the engine, or get me a replacement.

Maybe it was only worth half what you paid for it... maybe the LiquiMoly wasn't the problem. Unless you put the LiquiMoly for gears in the engine.

Fails the Ockham's Razor test. The likelihood that the engine failed on its own within 5 seconds of my putting the LiquiMoly into the oil as it was running is damn near zero. To your last comment, that's absurd.
