Own a 1997 K1100LT, LOVE IT, met someone that has a 1993 LT w/low miles with the possibility of buying it. Wondering how much is interchangeable between bikes?

Happy New Year and Welcome.

The one major system will be the ABS brake system, consisting of the pump assy's, and the controller. The '93's have ABS1 and the '94-later models have ABS2.
The wheel sensors should be the same.

The '93 will have an ignition amplifier that was not used on later models. It was a hold-over item from the K1004V engine design.

The '93's came with 2 different alternators. Bikes built up to 9/92(mfg date) has a 32A unit on them. Bikes build after that date came with a 50A unit. They are physically interchangeable, just a matter of output rating being different.

Interesting read there Inge. Thanks.

Even my '95 still had the screen switch on the dash pad when I got it. I've since replaced it with the left bar mount switch like my '97.

As I've did write in the link, most of the changes from -94 year model, but a few of them earlier and later.......the switch was from -96 year model.

Over the years being surprised how much changes that have been done on these bikes...........at first glance they look identical.

Gentlemen thanks for the input, maybe we should look for a show of hands,
would you pick up the 1993 for a parts on the 1997 at a couple of grand.
or would the 93 just be a great 2nd rider. Looking for direction from knowledge
mentioning the ABS which my 97 needs repair, the link to modulemasters.com is a great lead.
for years rode Hondas then 20 yrs off to raise kids, had a budget to buy used bike, looked at 22 over a weekend, 2 BMWs, my 97 was last on the list Sunday afternoon, fella treated it better than his wife, bought it and absolutely love it. Ergonomically it's super. Can do 5-600 miles and feel as good as driving the car. Biggest mileage trip was 9,000 in 3 weeks. across the north rt2 to Seattle, like the 2 lanes, down the coast to San Diego for a wedding, up into Utah, then the 550 in Colorado and home. Did Badlands, Rushmore, Yellowstone, Glacier, Rainer, Olympic rain forest, Zion & Bryce. Seems I am a lone rider as this is the first time sharing the trip

With a '97, personally I'd pass on the '93 as a parts bike. Just not enough of the expensive stuff in common.

As a 2nd rider, you can't go wrong for just a couple grand.

Whats wrong with your ABS on the '97. They are fairly bullet proof, but don't like low battery voltage...

If you are mechanically inclined, I have read on a couple of forum posts of others that have been able to "open up" the pump assy, cleaned out the crud, and have been able to save it as usable without replacement.

That or you could look for a used one from the many bike breakers on the net. Some breakers are on e-bay, others have their own web sites.
Myself, I'd probably buy from a breaker over an individual seller, as you may have better resolution options if there are problems.

After some further reading.
http://modulemaster.com/rebuilds/shop/abs-modules/abs-fte-abs2/

Sounds like a reasonable price($350) with 5yr warr on the rebuild of ABS2.
