Sure we can't ride all year long like many of you K11OG members do.

And yes we get COLD and snow in our winters. But we don't sit around and wait for the warmer weather. We have the right gear and some great terrain in and around Sugar Hill. We get out several times each week

Right up hill from our home there is a large network of 4 season trails. Last night we got 4-6" of new snow on top of the foot or so that is still on the ground. So......grab those snowshoes and away we go.

Cathy and I got an early start and of course, Zeva ("zee-vah") the wonder dog was along for the expedition.

We are always grateful for where we live and when we are out on the trails it is QUIET. Not a sound is heard other than our own snowshoes crunching the snow.

Just look at those crowds

Great views after a 1/2 hour climb. That's the busy main street Laughing of Sugar Hill (population: 560) to the left of the trees.

That is a deserted cabin built a long time ago- NOT our house. On the right side, our home is down below those open fields

More crowds.......

The two girls have a short sit down

Great morning of exercise

But a bit of winter decides to return and we are headed down to our warm home and light a fire.

Looking at these pictures, hard to believe that I will have the K bike out on the road in about a month.

But these few months of non-riding make us really appreciate MC season.

No, until it get to -25°C Zeva is good for easily a couple hours outside. Youth has its advantages (11 months old) with good circulation. She probably runs 3 to 4x the distance that we walk- she never stops!

Skiing? We can see a ski area from our home and there are a half dozen major ski areas within a 45 minute drive. Myself and both our "kids" have been snowboard instructors. In the last 5-6 years we have been doing less downhill skiing and more cross country- known as Nordic elsewhere. We mostly skateski- look it up, it is a killer workout.

Like I said, we actually enjoy winter here. Just like MC riding, modern clothing and gear works well- less bulky and very warm down to -30° or -40°C

John, any snowmobile trails out your way? I always thought riding one of those machines might be a winter substitute for the motorcycle.

Bob,

Not in our town, but it is a big part of the economy around here.

We see 4 and 6 place trailers loaded with snow machines arriving on Friday and Saturday. There are hundreds of miles of groomed trails in New Hampshire and even more over the border into Vermont.

And these people spend lots of $$- restaurants and motels.

Some of the locals also ride, but the majority come up from southern New England.

I have thought of just what you suggest, but the season is so short- maybe 3 months, (even shorter if we get the usual January thaw) that to invest in a snow machine is a stretch.

Bravo - great pics!

We're supposed to get 8" on Wednesday - the meat and milk departments of the local grocery were stripped clean this evening Smile

Steve and Ted,

I think that over the past 2 winters you have had more snow than us.

Good luck tomorrow.......
