That's unfortunate. I advertised it with friends. I might have been willing to purchase if youhad been willing to ship.

That is a shame that no one would have scooped it up whole at that price.

Those are some very reasonable prices for some hard to find items like the system cases and wheels with tires. And the Corbin, Koni and Remus exhaust!

I tried for several months to sell it. I went as low as $1800.00. I guess there isn't too much love out there for the bricks right now.

It's starting to come apart now. I will post detail photos of the major parts as I take them off.

If that was in my area I would have grabbed it. I part out bikes but only when they are not worth restoring.

Received the bar risers today. Looking forward to installing them and dreaming of a way to get the system bags. If only I'd won the lottery........

Ron, I was thinking the same thing.

Once a bike has had bad damage I could see parting it out. But otherwise?

Sorry to the OP- just my opinion.

What's the point of fixing or restoring a bike that you cannot get comfortable on? I have several bikes that I am comfortable on but this ain't one of them.

I offered it here and on ADVrider for as low as $1800. No one bit. I'm in it $2700, I'm not going to give it away for free or even sell it for $1000. I have already sold $1000 in parts and most of the bike is still sitting on my patio. After trying to sell it at a considerable loss for two months I gave up and started parting it. I may even see a profit this way though it is a lot of work.

After offering it to the community at a loss, I'm now at least going to break even. Please show me any logical reason why I should have fixed or restored it. I would have then been into it over $3000 and could likely have sold it for $2000.

It's a 1994 K1100, it's not a classic and even if it was destined to eventually become one, this particular example would have needed a bunch of cosmetic work to rate as such.

It's been replaced with this which does fit, which is comfortable and which does have many modern features that I enjoy.

Gregg

No shame there Gregg, I couldn't quite ever get comfortable on mine either (note the SOLD after my sig line).

I think we're all just lamenting that someone else wouldn't have grabbed that for less than 2k and with a little TLC would have had a nicely set up, low mileage bike.

Tell me about resale value, as I had to let mine go for less than 3k after a month or so of trying to sell it, with very few inquiries. I think these bikes are at a low point in their value, with it likely to start climbing somewhat in the future like the older K75's and K100's.

Good luck with the parting out and some of you should grab up some of these goodies.

Sorry if I hit a nerve there.

Just that many of us here have a soft spot in our hearts for bricks- beyond $$. If I didn't live on the opposite coast I would have taken it off your hands.

Good luck with the R bike.

John

I've never parted a vehicle just because I was going to loose money one it. It's not the bike's fault you had too much in it. They aren't making any more of them and it's a shame to see one get taken off the road for no reason other than financial gain/loss (and a small one, in the grand scheme of things). I'm not judging you as I don't know you or your situation. It's just not the decision I would have made. I hope it works out for you.

I'm not sure I understand the point you are trying to make, at least as it relates to my situation.

The bike did not fit me.....Period.

If it fit me, I would have fixed the brakes, I would have painted it (I had already bought the paint materials) and I would have ridden it.

It did not fit me ... Period.

What would you have liked to see me to. Throw another $350 in parts at it to be able to sell it running for maybe $2000. I couldn't sell it with the broken brake hose for $1800. The only cash offer I got was $1200 which I obviously did not accept.

You say "It's not the bikes fault you have too much in it". It's an INANIMATE OBJECT. It has two purposes in life. To transport persons and to give said persons enjoyment while riding it. I did the second admirably. I enjoyed riding it till my knees started acting up after 50 miles. It was responsive, it accelerated and handled well, it stopped well. It is also almost 20 years old and has suffered the unavoidable deterioration of time, I. E. The burst brake hose.

I have replaced it with an R1200RT which seems to do everything better than the K1100RS. Newer technology, same horsepower, better brakes, better handling, and a lot more comfortable for my old knees. Much as I like the RT, it is another INANIMATE OBJECT that I will either sell or part out when I am done with it, with no regrets, no sense of loss and no grieving.

To sum up, yes the financial aspect matters and you are correct, the $1500 ahead I will be after this 11RS is parted out is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. But I go through life always trying to maximize my financial returns, especially on toys (bikes, cars, cameras, etc.), so if you add up quite a few of the $1500 returns the part out should net me, it does become financially meaningful in that same grand scheme.

An R1100RS (LT) may be of great importance and carry great meaning to you, in that case buy some of my low mileage parts (at the reasonable prices I am asking) to keep yours running way into the future.... Very Happy

Gregg

Surprising how personal a 'parts for sale' posting has become.

I love my K11RS. But, if I tired of it and couldn't sell it at a fair price (whether in MY mind the 'fair price' was $3,000 or $1,000 since the title is in MY name and it's MY bike), I'd have no problem parting it out. Why have something setting around that I can't use and no one wants to buy at a price I'm comfortable with?

Ok, I'm off my soapbox. Carry on. At least this thread is staying at the top.

no offence was intended by my post. More my frustration since I have a K1100LT and really like the RS. If it was on the east coast it would have sold. If shipping was not so expensive I would love to get the whole faring and brackets and make my bike into a RS. I have 2 K100RSs but the K1100 is a much improved bike over the K100. (ok now I will get black listed on the K100 Forum)

I traded my 1996 K1100RS w/122,000 miles on it (ran good; looked fair) for a giant ass Snap On tool box last year - then sold box for $1700.
I was satisfied with results. When you are ready to move on - move on.

Mr. G check your e-mail - parts wanted.

Sorry all

I've be swamped with work and family obligations through the holidays. I've been very negligent in following up on this part out.

I will get back to it this weekend. I will get some fresh photos up later or tomorrow and a list of the major parts still available.

I'll also pull and photo the windshield and drive shaft for those that inquired.
