I have done 900 miles (very easy) and over 1000 miles (easy) in 24 hours.
Yes I know FD is a 1500 miles in 24 vet (my helmet is off to you, Drake)
But (pun intended) registration is now open for the only 24 hour Iron Butt event in the northeast U.S.
http://www.minuteman1000.com/index.html
I'll be there, I'm signed up.

I could do 1,000 miles in the time it takes to read all of those rules.
Just kidding.
Good luck and have fun. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yeah who woulda' thought, huh?
FD, you've done a 1000 AND a 1500 in 24 hrs., right? I would think that the difference between the 1K and 1.5K is substantial. By the time I have around 1000 miles in the bag I am ready to stop. _________________ John & Cathy

Hell I did 500 miles the last day of my trip up with Gwen and was done when I got home.
So what if the last 100miles was in the middle of the night in a driving rain?
Some people just have the legs for lotsa miles, as Gwen can attest, I am not one of those people. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Dave,
I expect to finish by about 9-10pm- start is 6am. Minimizing night hours.
The route (at least what they did last year) leaves from the center of Mass., north to Burlington, VT, east to Portland, Me. Then southbound on I-95 to New Haven, Ct and northbound on I-91 back to Northampton, Mass. _________________ John & Cathy

Gonna have Cathy on the back or solo? Riding with buddies or lone wolfing it? I ride much better, harder, faster stronger when I'm riding with better riders than myself. But I think that holds true for just about anyone.
For example I learned more in one weekend of riding with Gwen then I previously knew in the last 6-7 years I had been on the road.
But then again, most of you don't know how fast our Gwen really is...she only shows glimpses of it...she flies....and my butthole clenched up around every corner....
...was just talking to Gwen about how magical those roads were up by you....still think you should get an off road bike though. With your MTN bike training it's all the fun of MTN biking with half the effort. (although I know how the effort makes it fun...for some that are in shape like you and your ilk Johnny)
Hell, I think every street rider should at least try dirt, I mean really try it out (not like our resident *cough* flying waterfowl antagonist *cough*)....research and buy a used plated enduro/DS bike, (which is, for the east coast a bike that is <450cc, 650s are total pigs in the tight, snotty NE stuff we ride) take an off road class or go with some slow rides and really give it a go. You will become a changed rider, that's for sure...and if it gets it's hooks in you, beware...because the addiction in MUCH worse in off road pursuits.
DAMHIK, YMMV, etc.
Don't mind the inane ramblings of a semi-delirious madman, been up all night doing taxes and whatnot.

FOTG. I've ridden two fiddies on dirt. BFD. I prefer street riding.
(And I can change my pants w/o breaking my leg too.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

You should just take that KTM out back of the crab/jo love shack and shoot it in the head, crying shame that bike leads. ....yeah I never said I was any good at riding dirt, just that it's 100x more fun...for me anyway.
(for the record, I suck at riding street too, something about not trusting the tires to hold my fat ass up and whatnot)...wtf are you ppl doing up anyway? Pulling an all-nighter like I am? _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Ah, solo. Cathy's butt definitely IS NOT iron. I am doing it alone (at least as of now). I feel that I can do a better long distance pace when I am riding without another bike. That way I am only concerned with feeding me and the bike and not someone else's different needs. A large portion of the 1000 miles is superslab- just grinding out the miles.

Right now I am looking into another bike for the garage, but a road bike for track days. Jen and I are doing another one in April. Looking at something 750 to 900cc that I wouldn't cry over if I pitch it down the track.
But once the kid's bikes go and live with them I can see a DP in my future.

Yeah, I have started that myself and having my own business makes for a REAL headache at tax time.

Just my POV.
First, the very sound of the number "1000" was intimidating.
Kinda like $4.99 sounds a LOT less than $5.00.
1000 miles was surprising easier than I thought.
1500 was twice as difficult, not half again as difficult for me.
It's all mental if you are fairly comfortable.
Find ways to keep your mind in the game, listen to music or better yet XM.
Consume about 100-200 mixed calories an hour for blood sugar leveling.
(mixed means proteins, carbs and sugars) Of course you know stay hydrated.
You will be able to do this no problem!
Dave thank you for the compliment, but I'm really not fast. :blush
BTW I’m planning on doing this http://www.ironbutt.org/intro/ss/ssdusty.html _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Yup. The whole key is to remain relaxed and not even think about it.
And I did my BBG without cruise control, only a Flip-a-Lever throttle lock. A BBG with cruise control would be a walk in the park. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
