Ok so haveng really liked Metzeler tires over the years I figured I would try their new tire with the different tension belt technology. These also are the first radials I have had on the bike.
Well the first thing I noticed was the bike was a lot better going over bumps. It kept the lines better and was not that harsh. As for the the handling and grip I did not really see much difference between these and the Lasertecs I had on before.
Now fast forward to 4000 miles later. The tires especially the front is starting to show wear down the center of the tire. Granted I use the bike to go to work(60 miles round trip mostly highway) but I have never had a tire wear like this. Though my other tires may become flat the flat spot is not such a marked difference from the sides.
My lasertecs never wore this way. Is this the nature of how radials wear? Does anyone see the same thing out of tires that use different density compounds. I would like to hear others experiince on different radials. As of now I am considering going back to the Lasertecs in about another 3000 miles which is all I think I will get out of these tires.
Thanks for sharing your experience. _________________ Rich

Rich,
I looked at the product description on their website. I still can't tell if these are dual compound tires. After reading one page my eyes glazed over due to the marketing babble:
| Quote: | The Metzeler solution for modern sport touring tyres is called INTERACT™ Structure and compound technology
This new concept is the result of a new construction technology and a new compound mixing process.
The Tyre is a complex of different structure materials -steel and textile- and tread compound. The improvement of the product means reaching a new equilibrium in the complex.
By the INTERACT™ technology we found a new complex equilibrium able to "smooth" and react in a different way to the input of the new generation of sport touring motorcycles.
Interact is based on the perfect interaction between all the elements of the tyre, a modulated structure stress distribution and the highly efficient mixing compound technology.
The Interact Structure and Compound Technology mean that an interaction between the structure and the compound exists and the performance (grip in all conditions and mileage) of the compound depends on the stiffness of the structure.
This is the perfect evolution of patented 0° steel belt offering tailored solutions to the different needs of every lean angle without any discontinuity in terms of performance.
Full interaction between carcass, steel belt and tread compound, as a new complex equilibrium, guarantees better performances in terms of total wet behavior, grip, safe riding and stability.

WHAT????
Anyway, my experience- even with dual compound radials (PR2s) and lots of twisty roads here is that center wear is what goes first. I do notice that the wear on the front will be slightly to the left of center but I figure that is due to riding on lots of back roads with a center crown, where your highway miles would be less so.
Again, this is my experience.

Hey John,
The Z6 Interacts are single compound tires but they use different tension in different parts of the belt to to make the tire stiffer in the middle to give it better wear.
I think I may go back to the Lasertecs when these are done. The handling was just as good. _________________ Rich

I could barely squeeze 4,000 miles out of a set of Z6 Interacts before the centers were showing cords. _________________ Communique via Garmin ZUMO 665 via HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 via The Spoken Word Talk to Text |

Rich, I have a Metz "Roadtec Z6" on the front of the '95 and I think it's been wearing very well.
I had it mounted new last fall right before H.L. and has been to H.M.3 as well as H.B. this year.
I'd have to look up the exact mileage but I would give it over 10K and closer to 12K.
I'll replace it next spring before H.M.4 _________________ Ride safe.

Hey Scott,
If I remember correctly the Roadtec Z6 are a multy compound tire. The Roadtec Z6 Interacts are one compound. Maybe that is the difference in their wear. _________________ Rich

Thanks for sharing your experience. | my $600 worth of lasertecs on my k75 didn't even get 3 k out of them,,not doing that again,,,my k11 had a z6 on the back(good shape) and a bridgestone with paddling on the front so on sale i put on a z6 mounted and balanced for $177. i'll see how it does _________________ K1100 RS 1993,the fast mystic red one with the burnished gold stuff
