Pro-Honda Moly 60 Paste ?

Time as come (while I have the back-end stripeed anyway.) to lube my drive shaft splines.

Now I have pots of Castrol Moly Grease but have been told that the way to go is Pro-Honda Moly 60 Paste.
The trouble is that they are no longer importing it at Honda UK
& the usual supplier,(Motocross World in Rugby) will not get another shipment for at least 2~3 weeks !!!

Anyone got any suggestions ? I want it to be done right, & asap !

Try eBay. That's where I got my last dose.

I do a 50/50 mix with Wurth 3000 based on a post I found from Paul Glaves (K bike super guru) in the MOA forum:

Thank you FD, I've tried locating these item in the UK,(No success.)

TBH I'm having alot of problems trying to locate any suitable paste/lube for my drive shaft splines.(As recommended on BM forums.)
Ebay(uk) has nothing.
& Google shows various Moly greases but I'm baffled to what is suitable.

Two of the main BM aftermarket suppliers list the following:

Moto-bins: Optimol T White Paste
(Driveshaft/Gearbox/Bevel All K. 100g tube)

Motorworks: Castrol Moly Grease
(High melting point, lithium based grease containing molybdenum,
providing dry lubrication under extreme operating conditions.

I just bought a small tub of the "Paul Glaves Approved" Guard Dog GD-525 Moly spline lube. According to Paul it is basically the HondaMoly 60/Wurth 3000 mix without the trouble of having to mix it.

Plan on doing the splines later this month hopefully and will report back. Since it has nickle-based anti-seize on there now I am thinking the hardest part will be sitting down with a small brass bristle brush, a terry cloth and can of brake cleaner to get all the old stuff off. That reminds me, I need more nitrile gloves Smile

I've just got a box of nitrile gloves,(TRUE)
Pity we don't live a little nearer together ! Rolling Eyes I could've given you some of my gloves in exchange for letting me dip my finger in your greasy pot of goodness.

The folks at Guard Dog are only too happy to send the good gook around the world, even to downunder oz Rolling Eyes

I have to get honda moly 60 out of the US as well, but the Guard Dog mix is the go, as it is ultra sticky and has the goodly huge ratio of moly. Laughing

Thanks for the info & heads up, this Guard Dog stuff does sound like the Mutts Nuts.(Excuse the bad pun.)
But John (SugarHillCTD) has kindly offered to send me some HondaMoly60 asap.
I know the Guard Dog Stuff is the current way to go but surely the HondaMoly60 will more than do the job on it's own !?

Optomol is what the BMW dealers use. I`ve used it for 20 odd years, and found it fine.

If my Moly60 doesn't make it, then at least I'll have a fall back that has a good testimony.

I was up Tayside earlier in the year on my K1100LT, called in at Murray's.
I used to have combos for years.(when the boys were little.)

The only issue I read about with the Honda Moly is that it doesn't stay put. I think the Worth mixed with poly or the Guard Dog stuff has some sticky to hold the slimy in place.

In the Honda ST series motorcycle, for which this paste is often used, the splines that it's used on DO NOT have high heat as they are not clutch input splines but FD splines.

Therefore I agree with Carp, because of the rugged environment in which the grease has to do its duty on our K clutch splines. Wink

But folk do seem to use the Honda gook, but if you look at it carefully, it has a sort of crumbly texture.

The guru Flying Duck uses the 'mix' and that says a lot. Embarassed

I don't consider myself a guru. I use the "mix" based on a post I saw at the MOA forum where Paul Glaves, a real guru, recommended it.

I do a mix of Wurth Sig 3000 and Moly powder. Definitely a lot stickier than Honda Moly.

Not sure what folks use, but does seem like the Honda moly is pretty good on the ST FDs altho they also have their failures due to lack of adequate maintenance. Sad

For me, the Honda moly would be better than a low moly grease on the low heat splines, but it does dry out even there, but at least not such a job to inspect and re-apply. Wink

FWIW I have used a low moly but very very sticky grease on my airhead FD area, but I intend to put the Guard Dog 525 there next service. Smile
