I needed some new sparkplugs for my 36,000 mile '94 K1100RS
to replace some standard Bosch plugs that had done about 10,000 miles.
So decided to fit some Denso IX24B Iridiums, not cheap but I have had good experience with NGK Iridiums ,in my other bike, and they come with a recommended 30,000 mile service life.

Only fitted them today and the bike seems to start more readily and run smoother with less"choke" needed from cold, (but that may have been the case with a new set of standard plugs?)At least the Denso's come with the little screw caps as standard.
Time will tell if I have made a worthwhile choice.

Interestingly , here in the UK ,NGK does not list Iridium Plugs suitable for this model, tho' I notice they do in the US?
Anyone else running the Denso's ?

I have run the Denso ix22 for the last 110k km.I replace them after 2 years running without checking them between replacement.I get them from www.sparkplugs.co.uk for only 8£.Price in Denmark close to 24£.
IX22 has 0,8mm gab and IX22b has 0,9mm gab.I use the IX22 becorse
it last longer witout adjustment.

Palle,
24 pounds for ONE plug?
Even at 8 pds, may be cheaper to buy them from someone in the US and ship to you! Not sure of the exchange now but sounds like about $11UK to $30DEN each.
I thought they were pricey at $7/--so did my independent mech where I ordered them. But he is getting used to my high priced impulse buys. Mike

Talking about high price.A new k1100ltse was on sale in 1998 for
265000 dkr, that is 50072 us$.We have 180% reg tax and on top of that we
pay 25% vat.In 2003 i got a 1992 k11lt with 97k km on the clock for 100k
dkr and that was cheap, that is 18895 us$.So 8£ for a spark plug is nothing, price is close to price for a bosch plug from the bmw dealer(in dk)
Regards Palle.

Ran Champion plugs for 2 years- did not find ANY difference compared to the Bosch that came on the bike.

This will run counter to what others have found, but it was my experience.

Your last post seems to indicate that you have switched to another plug?

Or am I reading too fine a point? I just picked up a set of Champions to install, so very interested in someone in this temperate zone experience.

One of the minor differences I found to Champion plugs was that they used a smaller plug wrench than the BMW stock wrench in the tool rool.
Which means packing another tool.

Nick,

Actually I switched to another bike- sold the K-RS this past spring after I bought the Concours. But never had a problem with the Champions.

Good luck.

John

I managed to get mine for £10 each, shipped, which I think equates to about $15.40,at current exchange rates. The cheapest price I could get in the UK,currently.
Pricey compared to a "standard" plug at £1.45p ($2.23 ?)
However my previous experience with Iridium plugs is positive enough to have overcome my reluctance to part with my cash ? Laughing

I have had chance now to put a few miles on my K1100rs, since fitting the Iridiums and I am pleased with the results.
Starting is more instant.Tick over is smoother and more stable, throttle response is crisp and the bike just "feels" more responsive and and smooth generally.

That is not to say that a good set of standard plugs may not have done the same of course.......?
