|
|
Need to get the 95 inspected before I can transfer title and register it. Went through all the checks and didn't see a problem until I tested the brake light.
On the 95, the brake light and rear light are seperate (unlike on the 93). The rear light is operative. The "brake light" triangle on the dash goes out after I use the front and rear brake. The filament in the brake light looks unbroken.
I would have thought that it was the brake light switch if one or the other brakes lit up the light, but neither do.
Any ideas?

Well, cheapest things first, replace the brake light bulb, even if it looks intact. If that's not it, we can go deeper, but I'd try that first.... _________________ Steve

But if the brakelight were defective, wouldn't then the brake light warning indicator stay on? I'll replace it tomorrow, but I'm still puzzled. _________________ 1993 K1100LT (Washington)

The BMU onlt puts a small amount of power through, I have seen filaments that were broken but touching enough that it would measure ok with a multimeter, but put 12V across it, the filament would try and heat up and disconnect itself. _________________ K1100RS '97

Nice point: I'll get another bulb tomorrow.
My learning curve is going to have to be steep: I think I spent fifteen minutes trying to get the d..n socket back into its mount.
Thanks.

If the sidestand is down the brake light will not come on. _________________ Doug

Good point! Put it on the center stand and see if it works? _________________ Steve

Duh:
Friend took it around the block; when he came back with sidestand up and engine running, it lit up, front and back. Now I'll have to remember that when I get it inspected: the K12 works on the sidestand and engine off, just key on.
Thanks for your tolerance.
