Hmmm
Didnt see many trees in the forrest. Shocked

i used to live in Fleetwood and spent many weekends hurtling around those narrow roads, in those days it was on a 69' Bonnie.

Hi Malcolm
Fleetwood eh (Lancashire lad then!) Your right not many trees left in the 'Forest of Bowland' - all cut down for Henry VIII fleet possibly?

The roads are still narrow and great for hurtling round - do you remember Slaidburn with its bridge over the river; bit of a bike meeting area now with a nice little cafe serving homemade food.

The only thing i was flying about on in 69' was a pedal cycle Laughing

Happy days
Andy

Hello!

It is a lovely picture of bike and landscape. The bike looks like a excellent condition.
There is an interesting deflector on the top of windshield. Who is the manufacture of the deflector, can you send a close up of mounting?

Best regards,

The deflector looks like a Touratech screen spoiler more commonly seen on GS's. Melly can confirm.

I guess before we get too excited about the deflector, does it work?

Re the forest, they just solved the problem in the old saying "Can't see the forest for all the trees in the way"

Hello!
The Working one is not a matter to me Wink because I am going to make bigger, that the one on the photo, and I'm looking for solutions of mounting system for a deflector.

Best regards,

Hi All
Cheers for the nice comments and what can i say flying duck - this is what happens when you take close up pictures Embarassed Of course in mitigation the bike is a 'work in progress' but on the list for later today Laughing

Also well spotted BMGraeme re the screen; it is indeed a Touratech and came off my previous GSA - Fits well and does make a difference but i need an extra 4" to be perfect (at least that's what my wife says Rolling Eyes )

Rafal; i've taken some close ups - front, Side (open) and Side (closed) - hope that helps.

Front

Side (Open)

Side (Closed)

I've got two ideas/projects on the screen:

1. Replace the Touratech perspex with one that is taller by about 4" using the existing perspex as the moulding for cutting the bottom edge of a new perspex sheet and also to shape it.

2. Have had a trial run with moulding sheet of perspex over the existing screen, as in picture, and would fix with strong velcro or by drilling and bolting through into uprights. Both moulding can be done easly by sticking sheet into household oven and then when malleable quickly place over shape that you require (in this case over the existing screen) - got the upturn at top edge by placing over another bike screen with upturned lip.

Not sure which way to go but have had great fun playing with it and will ecventually report what i do.

Side view moulded perspex

Front view

Well hope that helps and i'm sure stimulate other ideas; however i am supprised nobody commented on the little LED's under the headlamp on front view of bike Very Happy

Here they are lit up:

Happy days; oh and to top this lovely sunny day in the UK i've just been offered a job today and that's something with the way things are at the moment Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hello!
So it is Touratech... If I were you I would go for M3 dual lock instead of velcro - its stronger and less flexible, Areoflow use it, among many others.
How did you bend the screen? What is "perspex" is it acrylic or polycarbonate (Lexan) kind?

Best regards,

Hi Rafal
Yes that M3 dual lock is very good; a friend has his helmet camera mounted with it.

I just put it in my electric oven for a few minutes and then when it was flexible i placed it over the existing screen and shaped it before it became hard once again. You could also use a heat gun to make it flexible whilst shaping it.

I used the word perspex as it's a generic term but in truth i'm not sure exactly what the material is - it was an old screen from another motorcycle and i think it's acrylic!!

Just found this document and although industrial it does offer some good information:

http://www.gcip.co.uk/pdf/perspexmanual.pdf

Which idea do you like the look of, the Touratech or the other??

Regards
Andy

In my day we'd take a ride over Shard Bridge and up to Glasson Dock, that was a meeting place on a Friday night. During the day we'd return via the trough. A few years ago i got a chance to visit Devils Bridge on the brother in laws Suzuki, that was interesting.
I much prefered the lake district, traffic was far quieter in those days.

Glasson Dock is still a bike meet with the old caravan/cafe which looks like its ben there since the 60's - i'm from the lakes and out of season it is still great to ride (best avoided in school or bank holidays) I tend to go over to Yorkshire which is a little quieter.

The 'Trough' is one of those 'best kept secret' places and not well known outside the area.

You must have some fantastic rides in SA

Awesome pictures!! Thanks for sharing these Smile

I'm always insanely jealous of the jaw-dropping scenery that you guys have. I have to go extremely far from where I live to get a hint of that kind of area...that first shot, seriously, WOW Smile

Cheers Chris; from what i've seen you have some of your very own fantastic scenery - this gives me an idea to ride and photo the bike in some stunning areas within the Lake District and Yorkshire National Parks (good excuse for a ride out !!!)

I was in Glasson Dock in January this year, it was deserted, nothing was open, not even the pubs. We had lunch at the SUN hotel just outside town. It turned out to be owned by a family from Cape Town, we had a good chat but WOW ..was it expensive. As a teenager I never ventured far into Yorkshire, as soon as I got a passport I buggered off to Africa as a refugee from Maggi Thatcher.

The roads around Joburg arnt good, they are flat, straight, infested with minibus taxi’s, and pot holed. For good riding we go 300km east to the Eastern Transvaal, that place is a mecca for bikes. Natal and Durban are OK but it gets dam hot and humid. The Cape is riddled with brilliant roads but its 1200km away. I’m heading to the Cape in two weeks but unfortunately it has to be in the car.
Search for my postings in the pics section, there are a few of the spots we’ve visited.

Go well
