New owner of '97 K1100Lt and had leaking front calipers...rebuilt them with the seal kit. The original pads have a 'clip' type thing around the pin that slides thru the center hole, the new pads do not.

Remove 'clips' (they're riveted in) and try and 're-use' by drilling hole in new pad and somehow attaching the clips...

or do they even need to be used?

the original pads are still way good, but got soaked with brake fluid over time....can they be used yet or just toss them?

any info appreciated,

thanks
eric

Soaked pads: Toss 'em.

Are you talking about the wires on the brake pads themselves? Disc brake squeal is caused by high frequency vibrations of the pads. I"m pretty sure those wires were there to prevent brake squeal.

If you do get brake squeal, try spraying some of this on the backs of the pads:

Hey there. In as far as your soaked brake pads....toss them in the trash so they never get used again. Life's just too precious to take that kind of chance.

I made the stupid mistake of replacing my back pads with cheap Pryamid pads and they squeel like a pig.

Duck, do you just spray the Brake Quiet on, or do I need to take it apart again and clean things up?

Thanx

Since anything you can use to try to stop brake noise goes on the back of the brake pad, you'll have to take the pads off.

What he said. Pulling the rear pads is pretty easy. Place them pad side down on some newspaper and give them a few layers of the blue goo.
