My SS1600 mate and I decided at the drop of a hat to ride up to a place called Leyburn to watch a yearly event, classic racing cars time trials. What a blast! Great ride up, about 200ks and back but the cars, oh the cars. They were really caning these cars even though many of them were collectors specials and worth well over a million bucks, they were not nice to them Smile

So to some pickies here:-

The track is totally flat with a pub at one end owned by Shane Webke (aussies will know any of the names used here) in clear view of the start. Course looks like this and is around the streets of the little town, population of about 40 usually! :-

The sound of Dick Johnsons old Bathurst Ford 351GTHO just has to be heard to be believed, gut wrenching comes to mind, and there were at least 4 different drivers punting it around, Dick Johnson himself, Shane Van Gisbergen and a few others. You could see their smiles from ear to ear as they roared around the track. A few of Peter Brocks old cars were run as well.

The photos you see where there are more than one car at a time was a show n shine parade lap. The rest of the time the cars started at 20 second intervals, and with 212 of them racing the action was constant all day, lots of spinouts.

An awesome day, next year a bunch of us are going up Saturday, camping for the night, get on the piss Saturday arvo/night and head back Sunday. Andrew, Keith et al, keep it in mind Smile

G'day Derek

Was there myself this weekend, Leigh and I went up on Friday night and camped. Rained on Friday, sunshine Saturday and Sunday, and pissed down rain Monday as we where packing up.

Good weekend for all those who love old classic race cars. been there 4 or 5 times now. Still can't get over that Skelta doing a 49 sec lap over a purpose built hill climb open wheeler.

Will be going again next year. Hopefully Leigh gets the MGB going and entered.

Thought the pub was rough this year, buy tickets just to get a beer and even food.

See what happens.
