The GS surprises everyone who rides one - they are brilliant bikes. If you have not ridden one you cannot appreciate how well the whole bike works. I still love riding my K1100RS but the GS is the one to have fun on, especially with other sportsbike's to embarress.

On further reading, these "testers" must have BMW sponsoring their auto loans or at least their meals on the road.
The tester's logs on the second page:
"visually stunning" ????? Compared to 3 fully faired road bikes? A GS might be the the jack of all trades, but recent models look like several people in the parts department each threw together what they wanted on a DP bike without consulting each other. If that is the criteria, we could all qualify by simply removing sport tour bike fairings and ride around with the guts hanging out.
"...windscreen is as tour-worthy......as a GoldWing" WOW, now there is a stretch.
"wunderbike"
"exhaust note is intoxicating"
They should have canned the "test" and stolen 3 more GS bikes if they were so predisposed to nirvana on a GelandeStrasse.
Kind of like movie critics killing a new film that ends up a big box office hit. |

But have you actually ridden one? Who cares what it looks like? It doesn't look like it should work, but it does. I was going to buy the K1300GT until I rode the GS which took me back 30 years to when I started riding bikes - it's fun!

Ok, hold on here.
If the GS ran away from ANY of those other three test bikes in the curves I'd be highly suspicious of the riders abilities.
I joined a couple riders last year on the way home from TN. One was on a 1200GS. We all knew how to ride and pushed it hard on a windy day.
Regular speeds of 90+. They stopped like clock work at 200 miles for gas, which fit my 93 K1100RS just fine as I was getting about 45 MPG at those speeds. They looked beat to death. I was gassed up, relieved, hydrated & ready to roll in 10 min but had plenty of extra time to wait for the group. I only waited cause they were #1 nice folk & #2 had the latest doo dads & LEO detection hardware, hence the good road time we were making.
Those kinds of articles just help me love my RS more & more.
It's still a sweet ride to me. This is us, me and the bike, ready to go.
Ride what ya want to, but do get out & ride.

I was just looking at what THEY wrote. They came up with the visually stunning comment.
And I have test ridden a new GS and left with the feeling that if I was on a paved & unpaved road trip it would be the weapon of choice.
But if I have no interest in leaving the asphalt why do I need the ability to do so? It reminds me of bicycle riders slowly rolling down the road on mountain bikes and with most of them never leaving the pavement- they should only know how much better a road bicycle does the job.
Just IMHO.
