Anybody ever run straight 40W in a Brick engine. Don't think it needs the lighter weight oil here in Georgia during the summer. Temps have been consistantly over 75 degrees all summer. The book has 40W as an option but never heard anyone running 40 W only. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!
I like the social aspect of riding. Rally's, socializing, drinking beer, fartin' and carrying on.

don't do it... single weight oil can cause wear issues.. today's (last 20 years) engines are designed to run on multiwieght oils. reason is the oil passages.
as design advancement thought racing enter the mainstream products the need to follow a prescribed method is important... think about this.. you are a passanger on a plane... maintance just fixed the landing gear but took a couple cheap short cuts to save time and money... take off was good but now you have issues because condition in the air changed the dynamics of the repair job and the landing gear will not function properly... that short just cost 4 times as much to fix ( see Jetblue a319 nose grear malfunction)
if you are worried about the oil and the heat .. run Amsoil 20-50 i have used it for 3 summer here in D.C. and a coworked has used the same stuff and will have 200k miles on his k1200lt brick buy december..
multiwieght oil is designed to function at different temps extreems. and start up is a critical point in which you need oil to flow ASAP.. after that it becomes a fliud bearing to prevent high torerance part from touch and a cooling liquid to disapate heat to keep part from reaching a friction weld seneriao.
just my thoughts.. _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |
