I had the bike cut out on me the other day. It started up straight away but got worst during the week.
I tried all the obvious suspects, like connectors, kill switch, etc.
By running the bike and wiggling wires, I finally traced the fault to a point where the loom comes out of the ignition switch, which had a broken wire.
This was caused by years of the push/pull action of the steering.
Easily fixable (once the top fork clamp is removed) as the wires are soldered to the bottom of the switch and there is a bit of slack in the loom to spare.
Looking at other Ks, it seems that the loom entering the switch isn't very secure and could cause problems for others later on.
At the point where the loom enters the switch, you'll find the switch base is just clipped in place and a bit wobbly.
Strapping a zip-tie around the two halves of the plastic base secures the loom more fully and could save you a future problem.
As my bike is an ex-police bike with lots of miles on the clock, it may not be a problem to anyone else, but for the cost of a zip-tie... 'fore wared, etc. |

| The bike has 91,000 on the clock, which is nothing really. But I figure, being a police bike, it wouldn't have a lot of straight line mileage, but spending most of it's time on its sidestand, doing 'U' turns in the road, etc. |

I had the same problem at 95000 miles. Fairly easily sorted though. _________________ 1993 K1100LTIC.

I've had this sort or hassle on my K75 and K11RS.
I'd say..if the speedo and tacho didnt drop to zero then it may not be the ignition switch.
Both my bikes had hassles with the connector to the fuel pump, that will kill the engine while letting the clcoks continue working. The side stand switch had an intermittent spell which also produced the same symptons.
