As promised, here are some photos of my K. Took them this morning with my mobile, so please excuse me for the rather poor quality.
The bike is pretty much standard. Only the side cases are not. They come from a '95 K1100LT of a friend that had misfortune (bike fell from the truck of a garage while being taken to repair a small nothing! ). The cases survived because they stayed at home...
Well, enough talk. Thanks for watching!
Best regards! _________________ Carlos

Thank you all. Well, it has various scratches that the photos don't show, but I'm trying to keep the K as "new" as I can.
Next upgrades will surely be the barbacks and the Aeroflow screen. I'm not sure in which order because it'll cost me good money... But instead of changing bikes, I want to improve Ks' touring capabilities while "respecting" its 15 years aesthetics.
jpberens, your bike is also very nice, fully equiped to travel. What are those orange lights mounted in the middle of the forks? They go well with the look of the Ks.

Those are CATZ lights I mounted up.
They are great at getting you noticed and SEEN!! And they light up the road very nicely.
Use the search function & you can find some threads on those lights.
JO & The Duck turned me onto them.
I'm kinda finicky, so I made me own mount. Had to remove the wheel to feed a long bolt in from the back of the fork leg. Used stainless tubing over the bolt, star & flat washers in between, then double nutted on the outside. Just make them good & tight, they stay put but can be aimed by just grasping & turning. Takes both hnds, but the fine tuning can be done that way.
Only paid about $12.00 for the hardware to mount it all up. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Thanks, jpberens, those lights are quite cool. I'll search in the Forum.
Do you use them as regular, day lights, or like fog lights? Do they work independently of the other K lights? _________________ Carlos

Hi Karlos!
The lights come with their own relay kit. I used the rear running light as the power to trun on the relay so the iginition must be on to have power to te relay which in turn initializes the lights.
I used a stock BMW switch blank and altered it by cutting out the middle so the supplied switch would fit right inside the blank. I then back filled the switch circuitry with black RTV silicone to make it weather proof.
This way I can run the lights when i want, but i use them 99% of the time.
I upgraded the headlight by installing an Eastern Beaver relay and a PIAA Star Bright bulb that is I think 60 low 100 high watts and is a clear white.
You will find my post " JPBERENS "and some pictures if you search " CATZ " _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

My K turned 80,000 km today. I gave a present to both of us: a ride with some friends to have lunch in 'Sesimbra', a village in the 'Península de Setúbal' known for its fishing traditions.
Unfortunatelly, I took no picture of the suculent grouper I ate , but I did shot some photos on two stops we made afterwards. Just to keep this topic alive...
The rides:
- Honda NX 650 Dominator
- BMW F800 GS
- Triumph Speed Triple 1050
- my K 1100 RS
Just preparing to ride after a coffee in 'Portinho da Arrábida', a small and secluded village by the 'Sado' river.
A short stop to enjoy the beautiful scenery in 'Serra da Arrábida'.
'Portinho da Arrábida', barely noticeable by the 'Sado' river.
A brave cyclist passing by after climbing the mountain road, followed by a group of sports bikes that included an MV Agusta F1. Too fast for my camera.
My friend from the Dominator, assessing the weight of the K.
Beautiful... 'Estuário do Sado', a protected natural reserve.
... and ready to go home.

Thanks, K jRS, being that your first post here!
Well, the quality of the photos isn't the best, but the feeling is there. It was a nice ride.
Open a topic for your K, assuming you have one, "neighbour". I'd like to see your bike and your homeland here. 'País Basco', in portuguese.
Best regards,

Sure, come around! I ride basically to commute, but I'm sure I can give you some turistic tips.
Two K's?! Well, then you know these bikes better than me. Let's see them!

Hi,
Many years ago I lived in Valladolid, Spain for a year ('80-'81) and while there, bought an '81 R100RT. Harriet (late wife) and I rode it all over Spain and Portugal. I do speak Spanish, but not Portuguese. We had a wonderful year there and I have many fond memories of Spain, Portugal and Andorra. Someday I'd like to return to see places we fell in love with 30 years ago. Alas, Harriet can no longer accompany me, as she died of complications of colon cancer three years ago. _________________ Ride Safe,

I'm very sorry to hear that, Phil. Health problems... Believe or not, I'm writing this message in the 'Café' of a friend who's undergoing treatment for that same type of cancer. As soon as he stops medication, he gets worse. Next step: surgery... So, I feel for you.
As for Portugal, where have you been over here? Maybe in next my ride I can go there to take some photos. To help you illustrate your memories. And, of course, if you ever think of coming back, please tell me. We'll meet and maybe I can be your guide for a while.
Best of wishes, Phil!
Regards,

Nice! Two somehow different K's, but two nice "bricks" you have there, j.
Well, can't say I really speak Spanish, but it's true I took a small course. And I practice ocasionally, when I go on holidays to Spain...
Sure, drop-by if you come near Lisbon! It's where I live and work. You are welcome, with or without a K. _________________ Carlos

That's a good bike, j! I hadn't realized that the seat of the K12 had that shape to better support the the passenger... Well, open up a topic and put some more photos.
Meanwhile, my K is in a friend's garage. After finishing the 80,000 km maintenance, the front-brake oil tube decided to blow up, while braking to "step" the bike down from the "elevator".
Here's the new part I picked up today. The K should be ready tomorrow.
The name of the part in portuguese/ spanish:

Hey Karlos11 !!!
Why you don´t put a metalic brake oil tube??
That way never blows up again and you feel a little bit stronger the brake sense
I hope that your K will be on the road again |
