Who's going to the rally in Redmond this year? Would be fun to pick a day and try to meet up with a bunch of the K11og'ers. _________________ Larry

I'm thinking about it. The one I went to in WI several years ago was interesting looking at vendors and several seminars. In general I stay away from crowds, but that wasn't too bad.
Want to make a trip to Couer D"lene, ID to see a friend so.... kind of in the area.
Haven't heard about any get together at Drake's but had thought of that also.
Oh, ya, to answer question, it would be nice to meet up at some point.

I'm planning on being there if the faltering stock market doesn't wipe out my retirement fund.
A gathering would be great. _________________ '93 K1100LT

If anybody wants to swing by my cabin either pre or post MOA rally, that's cool with me. It doesn't have to be a formal event or anything.
As Annie would sing: "It's only a day away!"
Since crabbing opens July 1, I can guarantee fresh clams, oysters and Dungee. Though it's usually good that time of year, I can't guarantee the weather - it is the Pacific Northwet after all. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I plan on comming up.
Drake what are the "Must ride" routes?
I plan on running up Hwy 97 like I did for Nakusp a couple of years ago.
Make the requisite stop @ Cratar Lake. _________________ Tom Connolly

Larry, heading out around the 12th of July. Doing the IBAs 1000 mile ride in from Cheyenne WY. Pick a time and place at the rally and I'll try to be there.

I just rode from Reno to Eugene, OR last Summer. Take a look at jetting from Novato over to Lake Tahoe however you can do that. Then, up through Lassen NP (great twisties, no guard rail - do not lose focus on the road the rocks look sharp ) -
If you're feeling adventurous there's a gliderport near L. Tahoe I have a jones on to get a ride at and see the Sierras from the air:
http://www.soartruckee.com - no affiliation it just looked adventurous and is right off the road and is moto-accessible.
thence Klamath falls (meh) to, of course:
Crater Lake (awesome as I'm sure you're aware) - fuel up first although you can get fuel when entering the park (I had to)
97 from Klamath Falls N is not so thrilling. Riding through the Cascades is. Cutting over on Hwy 58 to Oakridge thence North per the link on the West Cascades Scenic Byway is recommended. However, I'd suggest taking the Old McKenzie Highway over the Cascades to Sisters thence Redmond. The Old McK Hwy should be open by MOA time, it usually is. Crater lake: check, they had a lot of snow IIRC, sometimes they don't open until the first week in July.
Road conditions in Oregon: tripcheck.org (run by the State Hwy division)
Oakridge has a nice mom/pop restaurant brewpub on the West entrance to town, Sisters has a fantastic little bookstore (Paulina Springs books) plus is worth a couple of hours walking around. Bend has my favorite brewpub in the universe, Deschutes Brewery. Also worth a visit in Bend is the McMenamins Old St. Francis School - chain of brewpubs that takes over funky old properties and makes them into beer disneyland for adults. Great at night, they have big fire pits on the patio and people congregate, drink and chat, great way to meet others en route.
BTW: I don't drink then ride, but I do very commonly ride to where I can get a food and/or a pint, I seem to ride to eat, eat to ride...
One other thing I did to plan my ride, Google Map the area, then click on "More" then select "photos". You can check out the photos people took along your proposed route so you know about what you're getting into.
It'll be a great ride no matter how you get there, lots to see in N. Ca and Oregon. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Hey all........keep an eye open for a 94 K11RS making it's way westward to OR for the Rally. If you spot him (Tom), it should be me sittin atop grooving down the road. Unless of course you catch me taking a pic of the odo turning 100K.
What's Tom look like? Just think Redskins - marron, gray n gold. Yep, we're starting from DC.
Hope to see a few other classic bricks out there. Say hi n I'll do the same.
Ride safe......

I zapped it and asked him to post a smaller one.
There's still quite a bit of snow at Crater Lake. Last Friday the west rim road was not open and many of the campsites at Mazama were still closed. I got in late and the campsite I stayed at still had snow up to the height of the picnic table.
I rode the FS 19 "scenic byway." It's about 70-80% under canopy so it's not very scenic but it follows several rivers, is smooth and it's a great road to get rid of your chicken strips. I highly recommend it. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Since I'm heading east to Hungry Buffalo on the morning of the 18th, I'll only be able to host visitors at my cabin prior to the rally. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'll be in Portland the 12th or 13th, then head to Redmond Thurs or Friday. However my R100S has not been to a rally since Vermont and has demanded to be at this one. Guess I'll be hanging with Airheads.
Never-the-less I'll be wearing my K11OG shirts; feel free to buy me a beer if you see me. _________________ '93 K1100LT
