The Sturgis BMW dealer had an S1000RR demo bike. Took it for a spin. 193 Hp, 400 lbs. Crazy fast. Most importantly, I didn't wreck it.
I can now check that off of this summer's bucket list.

Well, "control" is a subjective term. Did it grab me by the neck and throw me into the ditch? No. Actually, it reminded me of the K1200S - smooth and strong without being too twitchy. But that power commanded my respect - I'm sure one could get into trouble fast.
I tried the "sport" and "race" modes (I didn't see any point in selecting "rain"). Rider magazine's article also listed a "slick" mode, but we couldn't find it. Couldn't tell much difference in the modes, but I wasn't on a track. And I doubt I guy like me could come close to realizing the potential of this bike in any venue.
There was some sort of rev limiter (in any mode) that kept this bike under 8000 rpm's. The sales guy didn't know why, but I suspect the computer controls this during the break-in period or there is some sort of setting for demo riding.
This bike also had the "Gear Shift Assistant" option, with allows clutchless upshifting. We didn't know about this until after the ride, but I bet it's cool.
No, I wouldn't describe this machine a touring bike. Some may be able to ride 500 miles in the fetal position, but not me.

Yeah, wish I could have ridden to Hungry Mama as well. But I was able to console myself with a 120 mile ride through the Black Hills on a 65° F sunny day.
Which brings up a question: Would there be any interest in a K11OG "Hungry Buffalo" rendezvous in the Black Hills of South Dakota? Central US location, great riding, lots of attractions. If j o and Ms Bug were able to join us on the Midwest Motobrick, we could work around their schedule. Some time in early July?

Too bad. Apparently all hell breaks loose when the revs hit 10 grand up to the redline of 14,000. So you didn't get to feel the real powerband
(the instructors at trackday were given several RRs to use for that day, courtesy of MaxBMW- that's how the head instructor described it)

1918.5 miles. Which is closer than Hungry Dungee. And it's nothin' for a Concours 14.
Oh, and I forgot to mention: While my buddy was riding the SRR, I had(!) to ride his Connie 14. _________________ tlp

Not at all. The only pain was when I got back on my 16-year-old KRS. And later, when I saw its FD leaking again. UGH!

It was a brief visit. I was soon back to the last millenium of no moto-payments. Except for those periodic payments to the Parts and Service Departments... _________________ tlp

It's nice and sunny today. I was gonna take the demo out for a spin when I went to pick up some parts - but some other fugger (riding in a T-shirt on a new to him RR bike ) was just taking it out when I got there.
Some other day... _________________ 93 LT (x2)
