Went for a jaunt this morning and stopped on the way. The bike was hot so I let the fan run maybe 1 minute or less. Got back on to leave and she wouldn't start. Friend came to give me a jump and when I got home I put the multimeter on it and it was charging at 13.75 give or take at about 1500 rpm.
Anybody know what the charge is suppose to be a idle?
Battery is a couple years old. I have had it on a trickle charge with the correct charger. Checked to see if there was anything draining the battery and got maybe .003 volts. Only thing I can think of is that it is not charging enough. I was out for a half hour before I stopped. This has been an on going issue and have never had the alternator out to have it checked.
Do I need to remove the ABS modulator to get out the generator? _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

Max voltage (~14.1V) doesn't occur until higher RPMs but the 13.75 sounds about right for those RPMs.
If your alternator craps out then the light in the cluster will come on.
Take your battery out, take it to an auto parts store and have it load tested.(free) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

| It could be a dodgy cell. Measure the voltage with battery on the bike and see what happens to it when you turn the ignition. |

Gday Moondog
Ditto Ivan and Duck's sage advice. 13.75V out of the alternator is fine. Your problem lies elsewhere. With the battery fully charged( 12.5 to 12.7 V) hook your multimeter to it and try a start. If the voltage drops below 10V get a new battery.
Good luck

Well took the battery to the autoparts store and it tested weak. Damn BMW batteries. This one was a little over a year old. Guess I am going to try Odyessy batteries, Everyone is praising those to no end. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!
