She took delivery today of her pristine 2007 F800ST. Look at that smile Her first motorcycle ride (not counting the MSF course) was the 50 mile trek home on her new beauty. I'm very proud of her!

That's great. Those are cool bikes. Impressive that she could take MSF and then do a 50 mile ride.
That's a lot of bike for a noob. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Very nice bike, I wish my wife showed some interest in riding.
Have fun with that and please have her practice a lot in empty parking lots, that is too pretty a bike to drop! _________________ Steve

Thank you all for the well wishes! Jenn and I are planning LOTS of parking lot practice sessions! She is already showing a good aptitude toward riding and is learning some good habits. Its going to be a fun summer |

An update:
Jenn crashed the F800 a couple weeks ago
She's OK, just banged up a little, thanks to good gear and lots of luck. Unfortunately, State Farm declared the bike a total loss.
Showing the Irish moxey I love her for, she's not giving up on riding, despite the early setback!
Last Friday I found the bike I envisioned her riding in the first place, a nice low-mile, well-appointed 2003 F650CS.
It's SWEET

Rydor,
Isn't that a Rotax engine? Those things are pretty well bomb-proof from what I have read.
Mrs. R sticking with it......good for her. Happy miles. _________________ John & Cathy

Nice looking bike! Dare say even nicer than the 800.
HUGE kudos to Jenn for sticking with it, not many women would get right back on the hoss. Any details of her crash? Did she "have to lay er down!".
Glad she's alright....now how about some more pics of that R16000RRRxxL whatever you ride. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Ouch, not good! Glad she's OK!!
Yes the 650 engines are Rotax, as are the 800's. Rotax worked with bmw to get the engine they wanted in each case. _________________ K1100RS '97

sad that you had to put in the claim on the bike. of course every insurance company is going to declare a bmw a total loss no matter what. that new bike is pretty sexy though! _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Getting her something like an F800ST for her first bike probably wasn't a great idea IMO.
I'm very glad she to hear has no serious injuries.
Why not get her something like a used Ninja 250 or another good learner bike that is forgiving to nOOb mistakes? It will make it much easier for her to develop riding skills, improve her confidence, greatly reduce the chances of her crashing/dropping the bike/getting injured and, in the end, make her a better rider faster.
I've put some miles on a Ninja 250. It's very light and easy to manage. You can pin the throttle by accident and it won't pick up the front end or yank the handlebars out of a nOOb's grip. As the same time, it has a top speed up around 100 so has tons of room for skill development and is freeway friendly.
That's what JO's doing with Micki. He got her a small Honda to work on developing her skills on a smaller bike before moving up to the K75S they got for her.
Also, don't assume you're a good teacher. Us experienced riders take for granted a lot of stuff we learned and what it's like to be a nOOb. Here's a pretty good forum for nOObs: http://www.beginnerbikers.org/forum.php _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well put Duck, that's what I would look for my wife if she ever showed any interest, a Ninja 250.
They can be had for about $1,500-$2,000 with low miles. Most people only keep them for a short while until they're ready for something bigger.
I know I sure appreciated that Honda Rebel 250 in the MSF class, it was very forgiving and I could put my feet down real easy. _________________ Steve
