Took a little spin to Big Twin, the dealer here in Boise, ID. I was there ordering a new ignition key to my K1100LT. My bike came with only one key and it was made by a locksmith after the original key was lost. While I was there, I asked if there were any records on file for the bike since my records show it being sold new there. I came away with a service record at 8500 miles and one at 16000 miles. Also the original owners name. On the 16k record the tech indicated the owner was not riding the bike "hard" enough. He indicated that the owner was not keeping the revs up high enough and the plugs were loading up. He took the bike on a 40 mile run to clean it out.
Now this was done in 1999 so 10 years later, I have the bike with 30k on it so I'm missing about 14k of records. Fairly acceptable I think since changing out fluids indicated rear diff very clean, trans fairly clean and oil dirty but not radical. The plugs I pulled out were very likely the plugs installed at 16k.
The tech who had been working on the bike indicated that I should never let the revs go below 2k and shift in such a manner that when into the next gear I would not be below 2k rpms.
Anyway, it was all good news so far. I'm very pleased to have those two service records and the bike continues to get better every day. _________________ Mike Holbrook
