Well, I should introduce myself as a new owner of 1993 K1100LS. The biggest and heaviest (by far) bike I have ever owned. Today, I was jockeying the bike back into a space to park next to my Honda and of course, got too close with the rear. Something gave and before I could say "Jack Robinson" the bike came down on my right foot. To make matters worse, it was sandwiched in a bit and I could not begin to lift it up. Fortunately, a neighbor came by and the two of us got it back up.
I was thinking now of putting together a long strap to slide under the bike and loop around the foot pegs on the opposite side. Then loop the strap over the shoulders so I can use my legs to do the heavy lifting. I'm worried that this could happen someplace where I won't be able to get help.
I'm a bit over 60 but still want to get out there. I can't give this up because of a little weight. Please note, I do not have any problem getting her up on the center stand.
Thanks for any ideas.... _________________ Mike Holbrook

The video "how to" is awesome, really helps to know this technique. That said, with my left ankle still a bit limited in range of motion making a really low squat somewhat difficult, I think the strap idea, combined with the technique in the videos, is one I might just steal from you _________________

I put an nylon adjustable tie down strap in my glove box in case that ever happens when I am alone. Thinking one end towards the front foot peg and second one back farther, probably near the front of the saddle bag. One could adjust it so you have the right amount of slack. Had a previous tip over on lawn after open heart surgury. Didn't even think about trying to lift it up. Realized then an adjustable strap could be helpful. Also, when camping, strap could come in handy for other things. _________________ 93 K1100LT

Thanks, great videos. Unfortunately I had now room at the time to get a good purchase on the bike but I did flag down some help. I learned a lesson. I do not have a crash bar on the right side at this point. I'm looking for one or a pair which would have made a difference in that the bike would not have been completely "flat" on it's side. I have a bad back and shoulders and am a disabled veteran. I'm going to learn how to get it back up though because I'm not gonna quit riding!
The videos were very helpful. _________________ Mike Holbrook

The strap idea doesn't sound bad, just remember that some of the footpegs will fold/rotate. You don't want the strap slipping off and dropping the bike again. _________________ Ride safe.

Is there some risk of damage when starting if a bike sits on it's side for a while? _________________ Jim

I've got a right crash bar. Some minor dings and such but overall in decent shape.
Drop me an email if interested. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
