Hi, has anybody fully removed the ABS system, all its pumps and valves etc, and run a K1100 on "normal" brakelines direct from the hand lever and footpedal?
If so can you write up the process and let me know of any electrickery i'd need to perform.
Bear in mind I have ABS2 and it's already disabled.
Cheers... _________________ "04 Suzuki SV650S (sold)

after having replaced my abs brain/computer with a used unit which gave me several thousand miles of trouble free braking i experienced another problem where the front brake wouldn't work...as i recall the lever was very stiff, hard to operate but the front calipers were not activated...so anyhow i elected to remove the abs...on my 93 krs i simply unplugged the conection under the seat, removed the control unit thing and pumps ,disconnected all the plumbing, and replumbed everything with braided lines. this removed alot of weight and the non abs brakes work great...so i do have a red light still constantly on reminding me of not having abs but i'm getting used to that _________________ BMWMD |

You need the "black tape option" to take care of that pesky red abs light. Works every time _________________ John & Cathy

Hi there thanks for the replies.
Mystic Red: I'm thinking about removing the ABS altogether because i'm customising my bike as much as I can. I'm no professional mind you so don't expect a show stopping work of art. It's an old bike and didn't cost me much and my plan was to buy an old machine to spanner about with in my spare time. It came to me with the ABS already disabled and as i'm willing to cut the bike up I thought I could remove the ABS and do something different with the frame, or with the space left in that area.
Newhead: It sounds like you've done exactly what i'm considering. However you mention removing the ABS brain. There is an electronic box of some description next to the ABS valve unit (above the battery), but I thought this would contain the Engine control as well as the ABS intelligence. Could you tell me more about the ABS brain and where you found it. You also say you are running around with the ABS light on, over here in Scotland this would be an MOT failure (MOT is an annual certificate of road worthiness that all motor vehicles over 3 years old must have - In the UK, if it has ABS and it's showing a fault, it must be repaired) _________________ "04 Suzuki SV650S (sold)

I hope you accept help from Sassenachs
The flat electronics box above the battery is engine management.
The ABS "brain" on ABS2 is in the lump at the side of the battery, which has the brake pipes & bleed nipples sticking out of the top. Do a quick look at recent posts, there is a picture of the "lump" & a description of how to open the cover to disconnect the FAT cables which need insulating /isolating.
Then run new pipes, routing them so there are no places for air locks to collect.
