Hi Guys,
Summers here in the UK and heading to Southern Europe soon and the fan never cuts in.
Have connected fan direct to power and it runs fine.
Have bridged wires from temp sensor, Fan doesn`t run so presume sensor is OK.
Have checked continuity from sensor wires to Motronic OK
Have checked Voltage at sensor wires , only 4.9 Volts should it be 12V?
Have bridged fan relay and fan runs.
Swapped Fan Relay with Fuel Pump Relay -no change bike still runs.
I Presume temp sensor sends signal through Motronic to Fan Relay which powers up the fan?
Any thoughts?
Cheers Nick |

Did the temp gauge go to the red?
Personnaly I only run the fan when doing a sync. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

The Motronic sends out 5V, measuring the temp. by drop in voltage.
By shorting the sensor contact probably have stored a fault code in the motronic.
The fan very seldom kick in.
Which bike and year?

I wouldn't worry about it until the red light comes on. Even if the temp sensor is faulty the radiator cap will still blow before engine damage occurs. (That's why you have a radiator cap.)
Here's some resistances for diagnosing a 94+ temp sensor:

All you need to do to test the fan relay and fan is ground the blue/yellow wire to the fan relay. (That's how the Moronic turns the fan on.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hi guys Thanks for the info will try earthing the blue / yellow to test the relay/fan side of things
Presume if I want to wire in an override just a connection to earth from above will do the trick.
Cheers

BTW it`s a 1996 K1100RS
Realised recently it`s the link to the future K12 technically 16V ABS2 Radials etc -Grrr
Compared with my just aquired K75RT which links with the past 2 valve motronic 1 ABS 1 crossply tires etc -nice in a gentle sort of way |
