My cruise does not work when I ride to work in the AM but performs flawlessly when coming home in the PM. This has been happening for the last 2 or 3 weeks. I've put off diagnosing because I thought I was crazy. My thought was my cooler weather riding gloves weren't allowing me to properly depress the set button cause how in the hell does a cruise control know what time of day it is?!
Yesterday I finally got it to set in the morning but it kicked out after a couple of hundred yards and today riding home I had on the heavier gloves and it set and worked perfectly. So much for the glove theory. Very Happy
Pretty sure it's got to be a connection in the brake light wire or the actual brake light itself but I will entertain any other suggestions. Laughing

Checked and cleaned all the brake light connections in the tail light. Don't think that's the problem though. We'll see tomorrow AM. I think it might be the purple wire that hooks to the brake light wire. If that doesn't do it....on to more testing.

I had some similar issues for a while. Be sure that that your brake light switchs are not sticking and leaving your brake lights on. I had a problem with a gummy master cylinder on the handlebar. Rebuilt it once and finally just replaced it.

Other issue was with the tap to the coil. The t-taps are junk. I finally stripped a bit of the wire and soldered a short pigtail to it and used a good insulated spade connecter there.

I have also had some issues with bulky gloves on the buttons. Some gloves just don't work well.

How's the moisture/humidity in the morning.
I have had (not what I would consider a problem) happen more than once, when setting the speed it takes quite a while to engage, sometimes 1/4 to 1/2 mile before it picks up.

I'm kind of like you, Scott, thinking that it's in the brake sensing circuit somewhere.

Rod, first thing I checked was the brake light. It's dark at 3 AM so all I had to do is look in the mirrors. Coil tap is a posi-loc but they are not infallible.
It's really odd that it only happens in the morning. Confused

This is really funny, because I had a failure this weekend. I was going to post a thread, but it is already started.

I rode over the Sierra's on Saturday morning and the Cruise worked fine. But on Sunday for the ride home, it didn't work at all. I checked the brake light at a gas stop and it works fine.

On Monday, I started trying to diagnose it. I put the bike on the center stand and ran it up to 80, set the cruise and it worked.

I guess that I will check for an inconsistant connection at the coil, the cruise/brake light wiring and the bulb to socket connection.

Thanks for the ideas.

Went thru all the connections this weekend, all tested good. Then when I took it to work it didn't work at all. I knew it HAD to be the brake light connection so I rechecked these. The next day it worked perfect. While I was in there I changed the 4 and 5 switch to off/off and it really helped with speed control. Now instead of +-2mph it's + - 1mph. It rocks!

That's very interesting. I'm about put install one on my "new" K75 and was planning to use off/off since that bike has less oomph....

Scott - I have a similar issue with the cc kicking in - as long as I'm operating the throttle, it won't kick in - when I let go of the throttle, the speed drops down a little, then the cc takes over.

If I can get to the switches, I'll make the other Scott dipswitch change.

This spring while I was installing on the '95 I thougth about Posi-Taps and decided instead to solder all the connections. This unit has worked flawlessly(other than occasional slow engagement).
I also tapped the wire going to the dash tach instead of the coil wire, as I was in the harnes wiring up my Fuel Plus anyway.

I just looked at both of my setups, one was on/off(low sensitivity, light vehicle w/high HP.) and the other was off/off(medium sensitivity)
I can't say as I could tell any real difference between the two.
I suppose someone could be daring and try off/on(high sensitivity, low power/heavy vehicles) and see how it performs.

Jim, just doing some fine print reading in the user guide:
After turning the system On, wait at least 3 seconds before attempting to set speed.
I have to admit that sometimes I go from the on, straight to the set button without waiting.

Where did you tap into it? Near the cluster on in the relay box?

Inside the plug cover on top of the Motronic.
I'll try and dig out my notes on it tomorrow if your interested.

I use the big mph screen 2610 GPS and it tells the story. Also, when you hit the set button there is no wait or drop in speed, at least not nearly as much. I used to wonder if I made the connection and about 3 or 4 mph later the cruise would bite. Not now.

Thank you, Scott for reading the fine print for me. If I can find those damn switches I'm going to see where they're set and try the other settings.

Jim, two screws on the front of the big honkin" unit take off the face plate. Then get out your magnifying glasses and flip away.

Well I found my problem with slow engagement/responce.

Pulled the vac line off the cc unit and put a guage on it, 0-5" vac MAX.

Started to snoop and found the check valve was cracked on one side and leaking.

Replaced it and vac checked again, 15"+.

Road tested ran like new. Practically instant on, maintain speed within 2mph.
