Hi Jim - that's the AFRAID bit - it's Beachcomber [ taken last Christmas ] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Show it to the kids when they are naughty.
My Clan is Crawford [ hence the Crawford Tartan ], the beer stein is a nod to my adopted state [ Saxony ], and the "Monks Bench" I am sat on is the genuine article from France! Oh yes, and it's in our Gastatte in Reichenau [ Saxony ]
Well JO - I nearly got it correct!
If you'd seen the state I got in during the past 48 hours trying to work it out...........................................
OK, I'll find a suitable pic and post it tomorrow as a test.
There's been a few requests from forum members for pix in the past, so I'll have a trawl through and try to oblige. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

That's U last Christmas!
Pretty neat.
My mind needs to adjust a while now.
My mind/you = bespectacled engineering type little proper, after noon tea time likes mechanical things.
Real world/you = BIG Scotsman / Irish outdoors motor cycle type / still slightly traditionalist, least ways on holidays.
Neat stuff for certain! Oh and BTW, I DO NOT form opinions about people without meeting them, but thanks a million for sharing and opening my minds eye again. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Yes it's amazing how your mind puts a character or face to a long distance conversation.
Many years ago I did a lot of work with Shelby American and spoke quite frequently to the man hisself.
He came over to the UK to endorse our Cobra replica that was when we eventually met. Well he wasn't actually shocked, and over the next 15 years we became good buddies and he eventually appointed me the European Liaison Officer for his European Transplant Trust.
LEGS? - picture this [ have a large Bourbon handy ] - last Feb off to Saxony. Dressed as in picture - what you can't see are the calf length Doc Martin boots.
"Anti terrorism sir, will you take your boots off please" - sat on a stool to undo laces much to the pleasure / horror of several women in the line. I am a traditionalist - legs akimbo and pure commando.
BTW Tim file will be with you in next 48 hrs - humble grovelling apologies - I forgot. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

OK,
here's the test pic.
Sorry to dissillusion you Jim and others - I used to be a hooligan in my youth, but settled down now [ a bit ]. Sorry the cloak of respectability / anonimity dropped!
Try this one - it's the mock up of my Streetfighter K100 - it will be pulled down over the winter for powder coating, painting, polishing etc. It's now got a 2 piece K1100 front mudguard.
Colourways undecided, but I think I'm going with Satin Black with KTM Orange highlights.
It will be getting either a set of K1100RS 3 spoke wheels - or if I can afford the discs / calipers - a set of R1100S 5 spokers.

You knew Carrol Shelby? Automotive icon !
Thanks for sharing all that, neat street fighter.Go with the Linex truck bed coating. You can still add orange accents.
How's the exhaust project coming along? _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Jim,
by coincidence I was at Keihan's yesterday with the K100 mule to have the system finished off - just needs an anti-rattle bung for the side stand.
When that's done they will complete the underseat system for my Race Rep. Then, probably Feb - they will take my K1100RS and see if the K100 system fits Ok. Then it will be modded if neccessary to suit the K1100 and then tested in the real World. So - nearly there.
BTW - my mission with the hi-performance plug leads is also nearly at an end. The company [ UK ] has been very helpful and carried out lab tests on the stock Kay systems [ 100 and 1100 ] and come up with a hi-po system utilising 8.5mm wires of the correct length. Price will be WELL under the OEM price [ £98 in the UK ] - we're aiming for at least 30% cheaper and remember these are hi-po leads. Of course I will negotiate the obligatory 10% discount for club members!
At the moment colourways look like being, Blue, Grey, maybe Red and certainly Yellow, because I've commissioned 100 metres of the stuff!!
BTW - remember the system shown is the rough prototype and has not had the weld and pipes polished.

I'm most interested in new spark wires, red of course!
Let me know how that develops!
Happy with the stock exhaust for now. _________________ Steve

Hmmmmm, you use the stock header, eh? I may bite on that.

Please remember the pix shown are of the PROTOTYPE - production item will be Keihan's normal high quality highly polished stainless steel.
yes, I wanted the parts available separately for ease [ low cost ] of replacement of each part.
That means because the system uses a "normal" inlet connector to the can [ unlike Motad and Remus ] - you can simply fit a silencer of your choice if the one supplied is too modern looking.
Keihan have already made jigs for the downpipes and fixings and the pre-production system will be completed next week. They wanted to fit a rubber bung where the sidestand retracts, as when the pivot is worn the stand comes up another 1" or so. Just one pointer to their attention to detail.
Re: the leads - yes it's neck and neck between Red and Yellow at the moment!
Don't forget you have Magnecor in the US [ red ]. I was liaising with Magnecor UK, but their techie guy says there is an issue with the fit of some models. I have now sent them the info., but the "other" company seems to react quicker and more positively to the project.
They've also invited me to inspect their factory and manufacturing facility, laboratories etc. to discuss any final detail we want. My kind of supplier.
I expect the pre-production set next week and after final trials we'll have the pricing and then I have to commit Realm [ good old Adrian ! ] to an initial order of 20 sets.

We would need to cut our individual header pipes just ahead of the stock collector, yes? I thought all the 1100 bricks have a one piece exhaust system as stock.
Keep going though- I would be interested.

Hi John,
yes correct - ALL k1100's have a 1 piece system. That's the very reason we had the front pipes from the K100 jigged up as they interchange with k1100.
You could cut the old pipes off ...........................
My understanding is that K11's suffer breakage where the pipes join the silencer?? Good excuse to bin it and replace the whole lot with a superior system !!
What they will NOT be duplicating is the collector / cat.
Here in the UK that's no problem as a cat is not required by law [ on a m/c ].
Not sure if our US cousins are aware of Keihan? They make superb stainless steel systems for many bikes but are renowned for their Airhead stuff. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |
