|
|
Hi Guys,
I've been looking for another K11 for awhile - tired of oilhead surging and clunky trans.... I recently found a clean 1995 LT with 21K at a dealer here in Norcal and bought it today. It's almost spotless, and a great ride, except for the turn signal switches...
Instead of the flat, horizontal switch on the left and right sides being the turn signal activator - it is the vertical switch that does that - the flat part either cancels them or blows the horn and you have to push up to activate the turn signals. The switches on each side are thus reversed for some reason.
The dealer said the original owner thought it was normal - never knew anything was amiss, and no one knows how this may have happened.. perhaps at the factory??. hmmm... not sure I buy that.... at any rate the dealer didn't fix it and I got it as-is for a good price. Any thoughts on why it would be wired this way, and if it would be possible to put it back to normal?
Thanks,

I've seen it before on a K75. The reason is that some previous owner that it was more natural to swap the wiring on those buttons - enough so that he/she went through the effort to do it.
Imagine my surprise went I was going to take a left turn on the test ride and the horn went off.
Yes, it's very possible to swap them back. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'd want the horn to be the easiest switch to hit...
Ive even considered putting a self adesive button on left h/bar for the horn to smack in a brown trouser moment _________________ ******************************

Thanks Drake - that's a relief to know. I will probably reverse them back to the normal standard to be consistent, but it sure is easy to access the horn this way - much more natural than pulling up with your thumb... and yes, the first 30 min I blasted several people out of the way with the darn left signal! _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

I'm betting others are thinking it too.
But if you're getting into an underwear staining moment and the horn is a priority, please re-think that & train it out of your system.
If you was just joshing, then please ignore all this. I get that too.
The horn is fun for scaring folks & what not, but when a physical threat or danger is present, more times than not that horn is the last thing that will help you out.
All in all though, yes, having the switches laid out like YOU prefer is a good thing. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Well I rode her about 200 miles today (brrr) and I'm finding it a royal PITA to have to thumb upwards for the turn signals so that will be one of the first projects. The other factor that helped me in my negotiations for this bike, a non-functional windscreen, started working again today as I had hoped it would so I'm really happy now. _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue
