Jim came over to buy a Russell seat from me on Friday. He's fabricated some cool things and done some selective polishing on his RS. I wish I lived next door to this dude.

Fabrication:

The air foil. He started with the black base plate but still got buffeting so then made the rad adjustable airfoil. The big knob adjusts the angle of it.

Here's the bracket he fab'd for his GPS:

They're all well made stable gear.

On to the polishing:

HES cover and ribs on the timing cover:

He also polished up the fugly part of the stock exhaust:

And a little accent polishing on the BFD:

How the heck did he get the cat on the exhaust to be chrome like that? Just from polishing? I didn't think an ugly flat metal would shine up like that.

The other polishing looks great also.

Yes the product is ASTONISH oven and Hob Cleaner (Hob is British for cooktop of stove). The stuff comes in several sizes of small tubs, is a gritty paste that works great on stainless steel if not real corroded, I use a drill moter with a small buffing wheel to initially polish the stainless steel. Once its shiney you can use the stuff by hand. It really works great on stainless and rusted chrome, shines up like new. I have used it for years but I could not find it for a while. I actually just got some off ebay, shipping was about the same price as 2 tubs. Great stuff

The polished rear drive and front case I just used duct tape to cover the paint I diden't want polished, then sand with several grits of sand paper and then polish with a small buffing wheel and red compound. The duct tape works great and you won't scare up the paint.

I made the airfoil and fairing extension because I got tired of cleaning my faceshield, and I prefer leaving my faceshield open unless it's really cold or raining. I have a lathe and milling machine which was used for some of the parts, but most were made with simple hand tools including the bends. Just stuff to do so I don;t have to mow the lawn. The little women takes care of those things.

Got a big job now though, because the bike fell over in a McDonalds parking lot in Ohio (soft asphalt) so the upper fairing is cracked and the whole right side of the bike and bellypan need repainting. Oh Well.

BTW Drake: My little trip up to see you was fun, the seat is a little high but nice shape and for some reasopn I got 51.7 MPG on the 1st tank full. Must be the aerodynamic design of the Russel seat. Nice meeting you and I may be stealing a few ideas from your bike. Ride safe....
