Sorry for the delay. My computer developed a problem that I thought was related to a virus. Did not want to spread such, so waited to go on-line again until I was sure a virus was not involved.
Thanks to all who gave input to what constitutes a SE version of the K1100RS. Quite a range - certainly no standard! This particular SE has polished forks, but does not have the Marcozzi (sp?) label. Final drive is gray in color. And someone has a six-speed gear box?!!? What a great advantage that must be!
John and Cathy may have had the best answer. This will certainly be an interesting project!
Many of you may already be aware of this, but as no one suggested it, I will offer the following. In talking with the service techs at one of the local BMW shops, I learned that by providing the last seven digits of the VIN to the BMW service tech, they can provide information about what came on the motorcycle originally. This includes options that were installed by the factory. It may not be fool-proof, perhaps 95% correct.
Thanks again for all the input.

You can do the same thing with some of the online parts sites, Real-oem Max's, etc....
Enter your last 7 and the proper parts listings will be shown that apply to your bike. _________________ Ride safe.

No, Johnny was joking about that.

This is not really true. All the VIN tells is the date of manufacture and the model. The electronic parts catalog will know the month and year of manufacture and the model but it won't know if your bike is an SE or non-SE version or what options the bike came with. It will show parts and paint colors for both SE/non-SE and ALL available options, not necessarily the ones on your particular bike. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well, it was something to hope for anyway. Determining the factory installed options (bike specific) by the VIN would have been great!
I'll use the VIN decode that was supplied and see what happens there.

I suppose at some point and time they had records as to what was installed by VIN, but I'm a betting man that they have been purged from any electronic system by now for our age bikes.
Even at that, the vin records wouldn't account for what was installed by the dealer prior to customer delivery.
Kind of like a new car. Not all options are factory installed, maybe factory prepped but still installed by the final dealer if the customer wants it. _________________ Ride safe.
