OK, see it now.
Image or video- I figured it was gonna' be a chain/sprocket guillotine job.
Didn't read the thread- did he try to clean it in gear, engine running?
EDIT- just looked again- what a surprise- moving chain, rag, fingers, GONE. _________________ John & Cathy

It's a good trade-off though - I have all my fingers! _________________ Jim

Wow thats ugly.
I don't think a chain/sprocket has anything to do with what happened to that dumbass. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

WOW! Reminds me why I've ridden a shaft drive bike the past 20 odd years. I hate messing with a chain.
P.S. How much you wanna bet He get a shaft drive in the near future? _________________ 1993 K1100LT

Or someone else to clean his chain!!!!
I hate chain drives too, way too much time needed to keep them clean/lubed & adjusted.
Its just lucky for him it was only the tips, could have been a LOT worse _________________ 1999 K1100LTIC Smooth and Quiet Cruise, BFD & HID

When this thread first came up I didn't bother to go look at it. This morning I did. I wasn't interested in looking at the pictures but I have to give the guy a lot of credit for putting them up.

Thans why they made O-ring pre-lubricated chains....They don`t have to be lubricated in its entire life./
All the grease in inside the chain.
Hope this gui could recover well.
And I had saw some bad accidents with motorcycles in the ER.....I could make a post about this, but I believe most of K11ogers here will not have stomach.....

Even O ring chains need Lube, its not to go into the chain but to stop the chain wearing the sprocket out.

The first response on the Gixxer thread pretty much sums it up. |

I've had, and now have again, a 'chain drive' bike. What's the big deal about maintenance? It is quite simple to squirt some lube on it every once in a while and check the tension, and if you're really lazy you can always get an automatic oilier.
It never fails to amaze me how some people behave around machinery that is spinning. My neighbor across the street, while a good fellow, has had in the past many run-ins with moving mechanical items. Many years ago his son came over to ask me to take him to the hospital. Seems he had been mowing the yard and the self propelled unit stopped working. He asked his father to take a look at it and so Loren knelled down grabbed hold of the offending wheel and immediately had his hand pulled into the path of the still spinning blade because he didn't turn the mower off. He lost the tips of 2 of his fingers. Loren took off for the emergency room leaving his worrying boy at home. So I obliged him and took him down.
I learned respect for machinery from my father who seemed to always have something spinning that could really damage you. He sold and repaired farm equipment 50 years ago when safety was not of major concern; so you always stayed back "out of the path". _________________ Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick!
