I have just got my K1100RS back from a mechanic who had to weld the silencer/exhaust pipes - what a difference it seems to have made to vibration.

Not sure how succsesful this will be - but have replaced/renewed the two mounting bushes for the exhaust/silencer whilst it was off.

The valve clearences were checked to (<39K UK miles) and found not to need adjusting.

I haven't had the bike that long 2-3mths - and when I got it had a service, for a UK MOT it had to have a 'replacement shock' and front discs. I had the fork seals changed, had some weeping and at the same time had the 'handle bar rubber mounts' renewed.

The bike had some vibration - and I thought that was normal, and this was after the above andhandlebar mounts. After finding the exhaust blowing and the most recent repair - with the new exhaust/silencer mounts the vibration seems to have lessenned (is a blowing exhaust a cause of vibration?).

Has anyone instructions on adjusting the rear shock. The 'spring' ring seems normal but I see there is a damping(?) adjustment too. The bike came with a K100 handbook - so that isn't a great help and I can't see details on this in the workshop manual nor after a search on the forum.

Can anyone help?

Can't find a handbook pdf anywhere are these available anywhere?

Regards

Mark

PS :-
Overall the BM seems a great bike - maybe a little heavy (compared to a K75C I had that got stolen) - but a good ride and - apart from the above maintenance (not too bad on a 15/6yr old bike) seems to be ok quality-wise.

I am relieved about the ABS-II - which I gather if it plays up can doesn't leave the bike un-rideable. A recent boxer twin (R1150) which had servo brakes had me 'sweating' in-case they ever failed (seems reported a lot on the net) a fate which I guess affects the K1200S type.....not sure about the K1200RS (the 1100 replacement).

Welcome to the world of Flying Bricks.

The damper adjustment is the screw at the top of the shock if it is a standard BMW unit, iicr its clockwise to increase the damping force but dont turn it too much at a time.

The manual is available in pdf format and im sure that Flying Duck has it, he will be along at some point im sure and will send it too you if you ask nicely Very Happy but I do have a hard copy if your close enough and wanted to have a look.

A throttle body sync might sort out some more of the vibration, recently did mine (and synced the throttle butterflies too) its easy to do but you will need Vac guages (again if your close I have a set)

ABS II is not really a problem, some get the occasional fault when starting up caused by low battery and the sensor gap needs to be right but with the 2 K's I have had both worked fine (my RS was bypassed when I got it and the PO told me he had been quoted Mega money to repair it, I re-connected it (if its fitted it HAS to work, anal like that) and all that needed doing was the rear sensor gap.
Its easy to re-set the fault if it does happen too.

Handy to put your Bike and location in your signature for further posts, saves putting it in the main post all the time.

You WILL get asked to post pics of your Brick, we do like to see other Bricks Smile

My bike vibrated less when the crack between the header and muffler got welded. Before it vibrated at all rpms, after the weld between 4 and 5. My last TB sync didn't make much difference between 4 and 5.

It might be worth you checking the butterfly sync screws to see if a PO has played with them, mine had been altered and were out, not by much but it was enough to cause vibration, reset them and it was alot better.
