Called jo yesterday to find out if he was on schedule to pick up his motoheap tonite and he informed us that dinner was on him. He said they like little "hole in the wall" places so Trudy and I put our thinking caps on, engaging both our giant brains and remembered a review by a local writer on a restaurant just up the road from us.

http://getoutnorthidaho.blogspot.com/2009/02/hideaway-cafe.html

I called the place and the phone answered "Hideaway, this is Duke." Me: "Are you open for dinner tonite?" Duke: Yes we are. Me: We'll be in then. Duke:O.K., see you then.
Johnny, does this place meet your criteria?
Very Happy

Both mo and I ordered what we thought was a nice light meal, Cajun Shrimp Linguine. Our plates were heavier than jo's chicken fried steak or mrs. reds beef steak. I couldn't believe that you could pack that much cream, buttter and/or lard on a noodle. I was on the throne for a interminable amount of time this am. I may never be the same. Thanks for picking up the tab and the good conversation, jo and mo.

so we get back to spookaloo and the mystic red invited us over for a fish dinner... the hitch... we had to catch our own fish...

upon arrival i noticed the mystic red had washed and detailed the bugeye motobrick in our absence... he displayed some concern for all the bungee cords and black duct tape holding ch1t together... but he rode it around the hood to contrast his fine l t...

so we get our fishing poles ready and head to the lake... he has a mighty fine fishing boat... here a few photos...

we didnt do too well... it was in the heat of the day after all... so we headed to the hideaway cafe... a true hole in the wall... righteous...

mr and mrs mystic red...

gordo was our cook this evening... i prefer a gordo sized cook to an underscore sized cook... im thinking you know what i mean...

mrs mystic red had a fine steak... but im confident it was no match to klinkers effort...

m o and mr m r had the cheeze and butter based shrimp linguine... m o is finishing hers as i write... like concrete in the veins...

and i had the chicken fried steak... like concrete in the veins...

so there you go... the bugeye motobrick is back on the truck and mystic red is on craigslist looking for a r s...

Johnny, what is that strange green stuff on your plate? I've never seen that in any of your food pictures! I sure hope you didn't eat it, it might cause some kind of arterial shock. Laughing

I'd love to take that fishing boat out for a spin!

Wolves are a sore subject in Idaho. Seems like the only people that want them here are from...........back east somewhere. Our elk herds are being decimated so yuppies might hear one howl. Banish this thread to the dungeon. I promised myself I would NOT talk politics with friends. Smile

Gave the Hideaway Cafe another shot last night. Hell, Johnny and Trudy were happy with their meals so we decided to order meals that were in their "wheelhouse" and stay away from the noodle/grease combo Micki and I had the pleasure of consuming. Or not. Mad
We get there at 7:00 PM and sit down, got drinks in a timely manner and perused the menu. I chose the BBQ'd ribs and Trudy, the steak she had enjoyed previously. Salads came right out and in the kitchen was the huge wolf wearing cook, Gordo, to cook up the animal flesh. Finish salads and look to kitchen and Gordo's busy cooking for 6 tables and the adjoining bar, the White Horse Saloon. Two more tables fill up and they order. Then they gets served. We're still waiting but I give them the benefit of the doubt. Now they are finished eating so I gets up and wander over to ask WTF is up with our food. Order got lost and the place is so huge Rolling Eyes that little red haired waitress hasn't noticed us glaring at her with no food.
Gordo's on it now and 10 minutes later here's our food. Trudy ordered sauteed mushrooms and a baked spud with her steak and got no shrooms and mashed spud with gravy.
Waitress comped us one glass of wine for our troubles so I comped her a .10 tip. Twisted Evil
The good news, Johnny, is that when we walked out, we looked across the street, and the Mexican restaurant back open. If you ever show up again we'll try that. It was GREAT before it closed.

Hi, Guys,
If JO and MO like Mexican, I know of a great taco joint. If you come here to El Paso, bring your passports because the taco joint is in Cd. Delicias, Chihuahua, about 300 miles deep into Mexico. Of course, we have some great steakhouses on this side of the border, too, and I haven't forgotten how to cook spaghetti, either!
