Riding along minding my own business and suddenly I have no clutch. The lever pulls in and goes sloppy. Fortunately I was approaching traffic lights and doing about 10 mph so I was able to steer to the curb and turn off.
Recently fitted a new cable so thought maybe there was a fault and it had snapped but in the event, it was the problem all old K11 gits will recognise: the stone under the rear clutch pulley!
Thanks to the K12 rider who pulled over and gave me moral support! _________________ Cheers, Steve H _______________________________________

OK, this perfectly describes what has just happened to me. Can't find anything anywhere else describing this, and I'm not familiar with the problem or solution.
Do you have any details on what the fix was?
It may have been lost in translation , but I wasn't aware there were any pulleys on a K1100.
(UK english pulley usually means a V grooved wheel driven by a rubber belt - probably means something different across the water ) |

Suspect he meant the lever that the clutch end of the cable is attached to. When you pull the clutch in a stone can get between the lever and the engine case and hold it on ie no drive and the lever goes 'sloppy'. _________________ K1100RS '97

Drikko, exactly! Where the cable attaches to the clutch lever just ahead of the rear wheel, left side.
Don't have the bike anymore so I can't post a pic.
Fix: pull the stone out while someone holds in the clutch cable. _________________ Cheers, Steve H _______________________________________

OK, I have now been able to check this out, and yes it was a stone. As I couldn't see anything, I removed the rear wheel, seat cowl and mudguard. Once these were out of the way I could see it, sat in the dished top of the exhaust collector box.
Many thanks for the clues gents. I'll soon have this one back on the road.

WOW!!!!
Glad I found this thread, same thing happen to me yesterday on the way home. Just suddenly the first half of travel on the lever was loose then it felt like it disengaged but it never did, pulled over and thought I broke a cable but after further inspection it appeared I did not. After pulling the lever several times it finally disengaged and I was on my way. Found this thread and hoped for the same thing then realized I had rode on a road that was being prepped for new asphalt and had gravel all over it, so I figured it fit, rode a bunch today with no issues. _________________ Brian
