Hi all, I have a K1100LTIC with the trans rattle, think its the output shaft damper thingy (sounds like a bag full of hammers when cold and like i have taken a couple out when warm) well I have managed to get a really CHEAP K100RS 16V engine minus the head, but I did get the gearbox, swinging arm driveshaft and final drive off of Ebay (£10.51) go it today and have stripped it down, gearbox seems really smooth when turning it as does the FD, engine inside was as clean as anything and now have the output shaft out.
Question 1
Will the output shaft fit in the 1100 engine, and will the gearbox fit the 1100 too. I did have an old clutch around as was going to check the gearbox splines but now cannot find it.
Im guessing that it was only the block (bore) that was changed as the stroke is the same between the 1000 & 1100
Question 2
Would my head fit on the 1000 block? just a thought but the K100 barrels look almost new and still have the cross hatching on them, no wear marks at all.
I want to put the RS box and FD on my LT as it was an Ex Police one and think they had the gearing different, it is nearly red lining at 120mph where as my RS would do well over 145 and was not nearly reving as high, it always seens to be pushing it rather that cruising.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Well, looking at realoem, not having the specifics (serial last 7) I looked at both early and late euro 1100LT and early/late euro 100RS4V.
What I found was this:
All the 100RS4V came with 31:11 gear set or 2.81 to 1.
The 1100LT's could have either 31:11(2.81 to 1) or they could be 32:11(2.91 to 1)
The drive color made no difference either as they both were listed in each color, silver or black.
The ratio's for the usa versions were even different yet.
You might be able to narrow it down using the last 7 serial # for more accurate production date.
You could also look at specific tranny parts for matching part #'s for compatability.
I didn't notice anything special about the police version having a different designation, but it's possible. _________________ Ride safe.

K100RS4V and K1100 heads are the same. All of the rest should bolt right up. There might be some pegplate issues. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks all,
Im going to strip my engine and order the seals so i can build the engine up after my hols, I hope that this will cure the rattle/knock on my engine at idle/low revs, it can me quite embarrassing sitting at the lights.
Does anyone know how tight the rubbers should be in the damper unit, the one from the K100 has a little play in it, about 1mm when holding the shaft and turning the gear, had the unit apart and there seems to be no wear on the rubber dampers but should there be any movement at all? the split gear seems very tight so I think that is ok.
I did think about using the K100 engine complete, just swapping my head on to it but didnt know what the differance in power would be and if the injection system would work with a 1000cc in stead of an 1100.
Im going to clean and paint all the parts (oil/water pump/sump/gearbox/FD etc) before I fit them so it will look purdy, they are all black (BFD Alert) but have a few scabs on them. I might remove the engine and paint the block too as it is just aluminium at the moment. I have got to do the forks and calipers too.
Regards
